GARCIA AND LONGIN DOMINATE
The Spaniard Smashes The Track Record At Raceway Venray
 
 
Raceway Venray, Netherlands - Borja Garcia (#1 SPV Racing Ford Mustang) and Stienes Longin (#11 PK Carsport Chevrolet SS) took the field by storm at Raceway Venray and dominated the two Autospeedway American Style qualfyng sessions held today on the “Fastest half-mile oval in Europe”.

AUTOSPEEDWAY AMERICAN STYLE LINKS


Five drivers went below the previous track record in the ELITE 1 Division, but it was Garcia, who was the 21st to take track in qualifying, to post an incredible lap in 19.397 seconds with an average speed of 163,32 Km/h, going .446 seconds below the Nicolò Rocca’s 2015 pole position time and taking his first career pole in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series.

Gianmarco Ercoli (#9 Double-T by Nocentini Ford Mustang) put up a strong performance and took the outside pole with a lap in 19.704 to lead the Junior “Jerome Sarran” Trophy classification, edging points leader and 2015 race winner Anthony Kumpen (#24 PK Carsport Chevrolet SS) and Frederic Gabillon (#3 Tepac RDV Compétition Ford Mustang). Freddy Nordstrom (#44 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS) was the fastest CAAL Racing driver in fifth, ahead of  Florian Renauer (#5 Dexwet Renauer Team Ford Mustang), Thomas Ferrando (#37 Knauf Racing Team Ford Mustang), 2015 pole sitter Nicolò Rocca (#56 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS) and Wilfried Boucenna (#73 Knauf Racing Team Ford Mustang). Dario Caso (#8 Vict Motorsport Ford Mustang) rounded out the top-10 ad led the Challenger Trophy classification.

Stienes Longin (#11 PK Carsport Chevrolet SS) set an ELITE 2 Division record lapping in 19.503 seconds and besting Hugo Bec (#3 Tepac RDV Compétition Ford Mustang) for the division’s pole position. The Belgian took his first pole of the season after winning both races in the Valencia season opener, while the Frenchman scored the best qualifying result in his career. Riccardo Geltrude (#7 Double-T by Nocentini Ford Mustang) was also impressive at the wheel of he Double-T Ford Mustang and went below the track record to take third and lead the Rookie Cup classification.

Salvador Tineo Arroyo (#54 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS) and Thomas Ferrando (#37 Knauf Racing Team Ford Mustang) completed the top-5 ahead of German debutant Marko Stipp (#14 Team Raceway Venray Chevrolet SS) besting Marconi De Abreu (#47 Brazil Team Ford Mustang), while Marco Spinelli (#6 Double-T by Nocentini Ford Mustang) lead the Legend Trophy in eight. Russian rookie Roman Mavlanov (#88 DF1 Racing Team Chevrolet SS) and Shawn Wakefield (#1 SPV Racing Ford Mustang) rounded out the top-10 in a session that was also partially affected by some rain falling on Raceway Venray.
