Ryan Semple Sees Strong Run Spoiled at Sunset Speedway
INNISFIL, Ontario — Finding the familiar speed back in the No. 64, Ryan Semple was working his way to the front on Sunday afternoon at Sunset Speedway when contact would see his afternoon end early.

The team would elect to race at Sunset Speedway on Saturday night as part of the track’s championship festivities, finishing second and eighth in the qualifying heats.

Starting fifth for the 50-lap feature, he would move up to fourth on the initial start, remaining there until the first caution came out on Lap 2 for an incident in turns three and four. He’d remain in third until Lap 7, getting up alongside Dustyn Mombourquette for second. He would take the spot four laps later, moving up into the runner-up position. Through the rest of the feature, he would work at chasing down the eventual feature winner Dan Archibald, but was unable to make up the ground. In the progress, though, he held off all challenges from behind him, crossing the finish line with a second-place finish.

On Sunday, he was once again fast in qualifying, finishing third and second in his pair of heats. Starting eighth for the 50-lap feature, he began to make up ground immediately, moving into the sixth position on Lap 5. Following a quick caution with 43 laps to go, he moved up into fourth, challenging Ken Grubb and passing him for third on Lap 12. Following another yellow flag at Lap 15 for an incident, he would battle side-by-side for second with Gerrit Tiemersma. The battle wouldn’t go smoothly there either, as contact entering turn three sent Semple around, leaving Carson Nagy nowhere to go as he made significant contact with Semple, ending both of their races early.
