Brief report from Shadow - June 22
« on: June 23, 2007, 01:11:43 AM »
Howdy all. I'm up early tomorrow so I'll keep it brief.

Challenger Motor Freight Trucks feature went to Paul Fothergill again. Didn't really see any of the race. Earlier in a heat, there was a tense moment when the 33 truck caught fire down the backstretch, but was out by the time fire crews got there. (Not even sure who was driving it tonight)

Powerade Mods started with Rawlings taking an early lead. On lap 4 there was contact between Starr and McCullogh on the backstretch and McCullogh goes around to bring out the caution.

Then on lap 7 the race is red flagged after Limon and Prudhomme get together in turn 2, causing bad damage to the 96 car.

The restart sets up an excellent side by side duel, with Lloyd Rawlings on the inside and Jamie Cox outside. After about 7 or 8 laps, Cox managed to overpower him to take the lead. Cox goes on to win the race with Watson running second.

APC Late Model was a wild and woolly affair right from the get go. At the green flag, someone bobbles going down the frontstretch causing a turn 1 pile-up involving 10 of the 18 cars in attendance. Involved were Urlin, 10x-Starr (Jesse's old car) Pearn, Sheridan, Hooker, Fletcher, Lindsay, Verhoeven, Kennedy and visiting Jason Shaw #82.

The race is red flagged, and it takes a while to sort it out, but in the end, pretty much everyone's cars looked OK to race, save for some fiberglass damage. Kennedy, Sheridan, Lindsay and Hooker seemed to bear the brunt of the damage, but all except Shaw were back on the track once the race restarted.

(It was opined that perhaps Shaw decided that discretion was the better part of valor, and decided to just keep his car out of the meatgrinder. He's in the thick of the points race at Flamboro and they race tomorrow night.)

The whole incident is awarded "kerfuffle" status by the announcers and the race is restarted. (FromtheStands dared me to use the word kerfuffle  ;) ) But its not over yet.

At the restart, they make it most of the way around the track, then Stewart, Box and Doerr get mixed up in turn 3, bringing out yellow again...and a black flag for Doerr. No laps on the board yet.

Fianlly they get some laps in. Forth jumps to an early lead, but soon bobbles and has it taken away by Delisle and Hooker. The race is stopped briefly by debris. When it resumes, Delisle, Hooker and Pearn begin to put some distance in while the second pack forms up with Forth, Urlin, Verhoeven, Sheridan and Stewart.

At about the 12 lap mark, the top 3 touch, slowing them enough to let the second pack catch up. Now its a 7 car freight train. 7 - 38 - 6 - 4 - 86 - 77 -52 all running nose-tail.

Aside from a littel bit of jockeying, thats pretty much the race. Verhoeven gets around Forth eventually, and there's a few moment where Urlin was really giving it to Pearn.

Delisle goes on to win with 2nd to Hooker, 3rd to Pearn, 4th to Urlin and 5th to Verhoeven.
