Event #10 - Street Stock Showcase – Rick Fredrickson Memorial
A terrific night for racing Friday at Wyant Group Raceway. You could
see storms brewing to the south over the city and to the west, but there
wasn’t more than a couple of dozen raindrops fell on the track just
shortly before racing began. Besides all the action on the track, race
fans were treated to some interesting skies in this Land of the Living Skies
Everything was lined up for this to be a quick race night. Three
divisions were on the schedule, threatening skies create urgency, but
the drivers had different ideas. The crazy competitive driving we’ve
seen all summer with resulting cautions melted away any hope of being
done before dark.
There were three different winners in the Shell V-Power Sportsman
Division. Ben Busch in his #49 Northern Lights Casino Monte Carlo took
the heat race. Neil Schneider in his #93 Burco Electrical Contractor
Camaro won the Qualifier race.
Rookie driver Kerry Neufeld won the Shell V-Power Nitro Sportsman
Feature race in his #2 Neufeld Building Movers SS. The #42 of Nicole
Sheetka was second and the #77 of Tony Mikulcik was third.
In the Earthworks Legends Division, #90 of Danny Meier won the heat race
while Black Erb in the #21 Flaman Group Ford Coupe won the Qualifier
Race. Danny Meier was back out in front for the Earthworks Legends
Feature taking home the checkered flag with his #90 Ford Coupe. #84 AJ
Morrison was second and #316 of Stan Friesen was third.
Ryan Fredrickson was the winner of the Golf’s Car Wash Street Stock
Division Heat Race in the #22 Globe Excavating Camaro. Curtis Houben
won the Qualifier in his #81 RPM Camaro.
Ryan Fredrickson led the first 31 laps of the Golf’s Car Wash Street
Stock Feature, doubling as the Rick Fredrickson Memorial. Rick was
killed 10 years ago today (August 11) when he was hit head-on by a drunk
driver travelling the wrong way down Highway 11 near Dundrun. Nephew
Ryan took over the driving duties of Fredrickson car, carrying the
number and colours over to the Street Stock Division a few years ago.
Ryan continued to challenge right to the end, but the eventual winner
was Craig Katelnikoff in the #3 BDI Canada Trans Am. Mike Rea was
second in the #18 J&L Frame and Alignment Monte Carlo. Curtis Houben
rounded out the top three in the #81 RPM Camaro.
Racing action picks up again next Friday night as we kick off the ROCK
102 FM Show and Shine Weekend. Activites go around the city all
weekend, but begins Friday night at Wyant Group Raceway. Gate open at
6:00pm, with the first green flag at 7:05pm.
The Tiger Automotive Pro Trucks, CrimeStoppers Bandoleros, Golf’s Car
Wash Mini Stocks and the WSSL Super Late Models are all on the race
card. Don’t miss what promises to be an action packed Friday night.
