Started a bit after noon and I have to take back what I said yesterday about JP. He did make some decisions that made the show get finished. Only one set of heats for SLM,LLM, Mini and Thunder. Mod, LM amd 4fun were set by draw. The mud problem in the field was also fixed, a bit. The final race of the night, the minis was called after 12 of 50 laps as the drivers couldn't see due to a strong mist. I'm cold and tired so todays report will be short and sweet. I'm sure Derek will have his usual race coverage posted by tomorrow.

Have no idea of names but the 3 won the 4funs and the 27 won in minis.

Thunder winner was the 49 from Sunset or Barrie. Connoly's old car. Pretty clean race until a few cautions later in the race. The 03 and 10 crews had it out a couple times in the field.

Mod winner was McLean #8 from Varney. Also a pretty clean race until a few yellows near the end.

LLM winner was 31 McWhirter followed by 10 Shepherd, 7 Tiemersma, 47 Walters and the 69 of Inglis. This race was a joke by all accounts. Most of the drivers had their head up their %$$^. Caution after caution. The scorers and flaggers took seemingly hours to line the cars up after each of these cautions. I think the race took at least an hour and a half.

LM winner was 71 McHattie followed by 84 Jackson, 10 Morgan, 38 Hooker and 44 Laking. Ditto for this race. JOKE.  Hilite was Hooker ramming 36 Elliott after the race. These two bounced off each other the last half of the race. Elliott drove hard into one on restarts 3 times but saved it but caused chaos behind him.

SLM winner was 49 Clarke followed by hell, I'm cold and tired and can't remember. Think 2 Owen was third with 62 Ritchie and 15 Shepstone rounding out the top 5. Race went green for first 25 laps and was pretty clean as well.

Overall rating 7/10

Car counts 10
Car quality 10
Crowd 9
Driving 5 ( LM and LLM were 2 )
flagging/scoring 4
weather -10 ( when is a weatherman right anymore ? )
organization 6
clean up crew 8

I can't really put into words how I feel about the flagman other than to say I've never seen one grandstand as much as him.

Well I guess I didn't miss much as we headed out on lap 5 of the mini feature.
To clarify, here's what I can remember as my brain is finally warming up again

SLM's  1st. #49 Clarke, 2nd. #22 G. Watson and 3rd. #62.  This race too was a bit of an annoyance since they ran a number of laps because 2 cars didn't think they should have to go to the back of the pack like they were being told to do.

I had a great time at the race but was totally confused on what scoring system they were using since they had a hard time resetting the field and getting that right was a challenge.  You know exactly what I mean slapdown ( hint hint!!!).  Seemed like once the field got narrowed down by 4 or 5 cars things started settling down in the LM' s and LLM's.  And seriously they need to do something about cars bonzaing it on restarts to gain positions on the left side of the restart.  I thought they were gonna be tough on that since in the opening heat they gave the black flag after the race to 2X of the LLM's for dumping a car because he was too lazy to actually use his brakes.

Again it was great to be back at Peterborough for the autumn colours but getting some consistency sure would have helped with the show!!!

Truth is the llm and late model showed sucked, caution after caution, l thought they had impossed a time limit. Nice to see Pinecrest and Scooter (hung over as usual). Truth is McWhirter has won the last three times he has run at Ptbo, 1 late model 2 limited late model. Truth is people should be told to keep their muts at home as they were crapping everywhere. Truth is Fall Colors sucks HUGE.

What time did they finish at? Who was the starter? I know Bob Finnegan does OSCAAR but was he also doing the other divisions?

thanks for the reports guys and glad I stayed home. Caution fests seemed to be prevalent at all these post season races where we're usually battling the weatherman and a host of visiting drivers who are unfamiliar with the tracks.
I would love to see a three division special event (perhaps LLM, LM and Oscaar) finish the season and leave the support divisions off the program entirely or run a mini, for fun, and other minor divisons on a completely separate day (perhaps the next week). These marathon shows are not family friendly (likely grounds for divorce) but I wonder if the promoter is really interested anymore in the fan, but just the back gate revenue. More cars = more back gate $$$$$.
Just wish the promoters would put more in the LM purses and try and attract some US drivers like in years past. The international flavour has truly been lost but god knows there are probably 5 sets of different lm rules for cars that run in a 200 mile radius.
Short track fan and I went to Wyoming County Saturday (weather turned out beautiful) at Perry NY for a SST modified tour season ending show. There were just 4 divisions (5 counting a handful of mini cups) and the show started at 2:30 and ended at 8pm. Even though there were a lot of cautions in the SST modified feature (31 cars on a small 1/3 mile), it was a pretty decent show, so after reading these Ptbo reports, I retracted some of my complaints about the show at Wyco.
Problem up here seems to be that our promoters, who could screw up a one car parade (to borrow a quotation), seem to live off the revenues of these season end marathons. Perhaps if they promoted their facilities better during the season the revenue intake would be more consistent during the season and they wouldn't have to rely on these season end shows as make it or break it venture to keep their tracks open.
Just my rant for today. Cheers-have a good off season. Heading to Smyrna in November.

I almost went out on a limb to to come to this one, and am sort of glad I didn't. It looks to me, as Mike32 pointed out, a realy blatant attempt at getting as many cars/crews crammed into the pits (and buying hamburgers etc) as possible. Something about an event where the promoter knows he's gonna make money even if no fans show up sort of rubs me the wrong way.

I don't begrudge these sorts of events too much (I was at Flams Oktoberfest) simply because they seem to be the one sort of season ending special event that actively includes the 2nd tier divisions. Its good to have something those guys can travel to just to do something different....and for the most part, the mini guys, LLM guys and the thunder guys seem to have a good time. So its not all bad.

But geez, these things just go on and on and on. Mike is right....its not family friendly. I can't imagine keeping kids entertained for that long at the track. And even if I left the kiddies at home, my wife'd never enjoy something like this. (I don't have kids...just speaking hypothetically)

I'm curious, how full were the grandstands? Was anyone from here at the event purely as a grandstand spectator?

Shadowracer - the stands were about 2/3 full maybe.  I've seen more,
but considering the weather, not bad.  Yes the support divisions were
happy, except for the mini stock A feature runners that got to run
about 12 laps after the Limited late model feature ran maybe 1 1/2 hours
(just guessing on that).  Maybe they could have divided the remaining time
between divisions when it got close to the midnight curfew.  Just a suggestion.

In thinking about it - if the crowd from the pits hadn't flowed into the
main stands, I doubt there would have been very many people.

As a short track fan , I wasn't impressed by the amount of cautions . I really did nap between cautions and the restarts . I found that rather boring to say the least . Lining up cars after crashes became ridiculous ! Very time consuming and the crowd was getting tired of waiting . I wanted to go down and set the caution flag on fire , just so we didn't have to deal with it anymore . Even on Saturday , when we had a few hours of sunshine , the midget cars were sent to the track . It would have been more fun seeing some high horsepower cars enter the track and get the excitement and action rolling . The LLM feature was a joke as McWhirter beat his way through the cars . When you go through entire laps with your bumper attached to the car in front of you , this is when bad wrecks are a short distance away . The same crews with these cars were freaking out after the race on other drivers ! Shawn can be a great driver when he puts his mind to it and his talent to the pavement . Last week at Flamborough was the same thing , impatient and over driving the car till it was spun out . There's nothing I enjoy better than a driver using his full ability to drive his car and win a race . Thats what makes this show more fun for everyone .

over 12 hours of racing....my goodness.

I have mixed feelings over the colors, a lot of cars, a lot of racing(lil to much though) a lot of bonehead driving.

I don't get why...people think when going down the back stretch before the green is the time to go....it was like freakin bumper cars before the green flag!? .   I started to wonder why people would not take it easy, then I thought well maybe that's one of the problems....a few are taking it to easy off the start..and some are going to hard and it's just making it worse.

As for how the event was run...they worked well cleaning up the track and good that they had an extra tow truck and a sweeper...but they need to get some officials-drivers radios for this event next year.....because it took WAY to long getting the cars back into the proper order.

I'm not quiet sure why Bob backed off on black flagging people, from what I seen from him in the past is I thought he was to strict but last night after the heats all he did was give a few warnings....and you had people running all over the back of each other.... I understand it's just the fact that it's to many cars on to small of a track..but never the less, people need to use there heads.

the LM race was pretty rough and got annoying....but the LLM race topped them all.

caution..after caution...after caution.   I don't even know where to start, because every re-start it was just everyone pounding on each others bumpers...until somebody got spun, then line it up again and do it over and over.

a lot of accidents happened when the caution came out to people trying to slow down..and even on the caution/pace laps!!! people were wrecking....because 1 car slowed down..or the officials went to talk to somebody and the guys behind went..BANG..BAM..BOOM..(this applies to all the divisions)

Was anyone from here at the event purely as a grandstand spectator?

*raises hand*

Quote
anyone know what happened to the 42 of Jamie Ramsay in the LM feature did he get involved in any wrecks?

Think he got in a couple of spins..... then one time during the caution laps(like  the field running behind the pace car..not  just slowing down for the caution) ..some how people  got stacked up and crashed into each other..and somebody got stuck up on the hood of the 42.

He looked to me like he could work the outside pretty well, but to many cautions and he never got no where.

funny how some of the biggist cheers came when they fliped the sign down "cautions count" ...lol

There was quiet a reaction when they stoped Walters to talk to him about jumping the starts...loud cheers..and some funny quote's like "Why don't you stick your (fill in the blank) in his mouth...I'm sure he'll like that"  lol

Now besides all that....I'm a race fan, and I enjoyed myself....the event did run to long...there were to many yellows.  but I had a great time..and will come back next year for sure.

congrats to all the winners!

I didnt think it was to bad a show besides the llm and lm enduro races, the llm had a 50 minute curfue and were 23 laps in when it came into effect, and they started counting cautions, the lm took forever because of simple annoying spins and drivers who fight for there spot back after comming off of pit road and fight for 5 laps then finally goto the back. Also the use of pit road slows things down the minis and four funs that take 15 minutes to line up cause they want to send there crew to the infield is ridiculous. Besides that thunders, four funs and mods i felt had the best features to watch.

I was there as a "spectator" on Saturday, I helped out a few people I knew as well, but I wasn't there in any official capacity... driver or crew. I don't think there was very many people at the track who were "pure" spectators, everyone seemed to be either racing, with a crew, or regulars at some track who were hanging out with people who were racing from their home track... but anyways I guess when the weather is like that you're going to get the hardcore only sticking around. If the weather was better it would have been interesting to see how many "real fans" would have come out...
