Strong Performance By The Israeli Opens The Semi Finals
Magione, Italy - September 11, 2015 - The 2015 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series Playoffs started in Magione with Alon Day (#54 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS) setting the fastest time overall in the two ELITE 1 Division free-practice sessions of the day. The driver from Israel led both sessions in the first day of the SemiFinals, clocking his best time during Final Practice in 1’13.716. Day was the only driver able to lap under the wall of 1’14’’ and he was followed by his teammates, in a dominating CAAL Racing 1-2-3. Eddie Cheever III (#51 CAAL Racing Toyota Camry) lapped in 1’14.177 and four-time polesitter Nicolò Rocca (#56 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS) ended up 0.038 seconds behind. Reigning Champion Anthony Kumpen (#24 PK Carsport Chevrolet SS) took the fourth position, edging Frederic Gabillon (#3 Tepac RDV Compétition Ford Mustang). Championship leader Ander Vilarino (#2 TFT-Banco Santander Chevrolet SS) was sixth in 1’15.115, despite not taking part in the second session due to a problem with his car. Freddy Nordström (#44 GDL Racing Ford Mustang) ended up seventh, in front Philipp Lietz (#67 GDL Racing Ford Mustang) and Romain Iannetta (#7 TFT Chevrolet SS). Florian Renauer (#5 Dexwet Renauer Team Ford Mustang) rounded out the top-10.

NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR K&N Pro Series driver Brandon Gdovic (#46 ) constantly improved his feeling for the EuroNASCAR car and the Autodromo dell'Umbria di Magione, posting a best lap 1'16.144.
Raceway Venray dominator and title contender Philipp Lietz sat the fastest time in the ELITE 2 Division, posting his best one in 1’15.387 in the first practice session, edging the Spanish rookie Salvador Tineo Arroyo (#51 CAAL Racing Toyota Camry) who posted his best lap in the second session. Carole Perrin (#54 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS) led the Lady Cup with her third overall time. ELITE 2 championship leader Gianmarco Ercoli (#9 Double T by MRT Nocentini Chevrolet Camaro) ended up fourth, in front of Florian Renauer. Gdovic was sixth fastest, Ulysse Delsaux (#3 Tepac RDV Compétition Ford Mustang) ended up 0.067 seconds behind, ahead of the Lady Cup classification leader Francesca Linossi (#99 GDL Racing Ford Mustang) and Thomas Ferrando (#37 Knauf Racing Team Ford Mustang). Bart Van Haeren (#24 PK Carsport Chevrolet SS) ended up tenth in his maiden NASCAR Whelen Euro Series debut.
ELITE 1 qualifying session will see the green light on Saturday at 10 am CET, while ELITE 2 driver will fight for their starting spots at 10:22 am. Both qualifying sessions and each race of the weekend will be live streamed on fanschoice.tv. Live Updates will be available on Race Central Live.
