a couple 100 lap lm in 2010
« on: February 01, 2010, 11:52:16 PM »
New management has decided to schedule 2 sat events with 100 lap late model races. Hopefully Kawartha drivers will give the new management a chance and come up for those races.

I think the new pavement might lure allot guys back.

Another idea to increase the car count would be to contact some of the guys in NY state with Late Models. They'll be looking for a place with Adirondack closed in 2010.

They can't even entice the local guys to race there. Why would anyone travel to Ottawa?  How much are the payouts?  Here the track is getting paved probably going to be a one lane track for a while.  So many classes have been let go there: modifieds, trucks, mini legends, pro-stocks all gone four for fun next I here.

Actually the mini-legends were replaced by the legends that run all over N.A. I am wondering about the future of the late models. I heard one former LM driver is coming back in a Legend and one current LM might be going to run dirt. Could be that Legends become the top class?

Anyone have any idea why Ottawa runs the ACT Late Model spec car?

It used to be an ACT sanctioned track. No ACT race there this year as we found out earlier this year so don't know if they are still affiliated or not.

It's still an ACT affiliated track, w/o a race.  Kawartha is the same.  Champion still goes to Loudon.

My understanding of the ACT rules is because they tried a LLM class and it failed.  There ARE enough cars out in the area, they just need to get them to the track.  I think with new management we will see an increase in car counts in every class.  Drummonds are now running the track and it should be better with more a focus on racing and getting driver's AND fans back to the track.  Sure it may take time, but give them a chance and I'm sure you will see a great future at the track!

Well I'm not sure how long you been involved with capitalcityspeedway.  David M. was convinced once seeing some of the LLM races at Kawartha, Mosport Sunset, Barrie, and Peterborough that it would be a great class to get involved with.  There are almost twice as many LLM in eastern Ontario than late models. Arnie M. killed the LLM class in favor for the high dollar ACT Late Models for what. Don't forget Tim Kirby, Dave Wood, Bruce Baldock, Greg Oglvie, Al Dikie, and a guy name Chris in Cobden built cars for this class (more I'm sure would have been built). Most people can't afford the Late Models as seen in the past three years under Arnie some came tried and left after finding out how expensive it is to run a ACT Late Model (don't get me wrong it's a good class but I don't think for Ottawa).  They now have gone so far as running the LLM crate motor in the thunder cars now.  Still no sense in any of this.  It is still a rumor but ACT may pull ACT Quebec due to the roughness of the drivers.  So where will this leave Ottawa.  No ACT races in Ottawa or Kawartha this year hmmmmm .

grumblings are that there might not even be a LM class this year.......a few drivers are looking at other options because they are tired of trying to get this class to survive (10 cars at the high last year) so suddenly you lose three cars and your at 7 races.....one or two break or wreck and that's that for the class.

secondly.....the drummonds are not in the racing business, they are there to strictly lease the track to someone for 2011 - so now you've got someone that is promoting the facility who has never done anything like this before.....hmmm - recipe for success.....don't know about that.

not trying to be negative but alittle more realistic perhaps.

It is a tough situation in Capitol City and close to a 1000 mile round trip for the guy in Southwestern Ontario. The weather plays a huge roll in this as well as purse money.
100 lap races with big purse money to win like $5000.00 provides the answers to a lot of questions.
I have been to races only to get rained out 200 mile one way yet could have raced 200 miles in the other direction RULES PERMITTING something promoters do not know how to take advantage of.
I think Cap City if the promoter, promotes and puts the money where his mouth is you will see the cars.

Was there too and Spencer got  the money, bad deal. Ironicly he quit racing there and Steve came back and ran full schedule last year. I heard than it was at the urging of the drivers (don't know if all classes or just some) that wanted Drummond's to end deal with Arnie and go with someone else.

Pretty tough to draw cars when Arnie was only offering like 1000 for 2nd, 750 for 3rd.  Was an extremely top heavy(ie 1st place) payout.

I think people need to focus on the future and not dwell on the past.  I agree Drummonds aren't in the racing business, but they also aren't stupid.  They're not about to spend alot of money to re-pave the track, and then have the track not operational in a year or two.  If the Drummonds are putting money into it, IMO it means they are going to do what they can to make it work, and get racing back in Ottawa with good car counts and good fan base.

You need a top class like a LM class to bring in the fans.  They need to do something to get guys back, I  think there are alot of ACT LM cars in the Ottawa region, they just need to get them back to the track.

I have spoken with Jeremy lots about rules and what he has planned.  He is very open to talk to.  If you have a car, and are concerned over the past history. Give Jeremy a Call and talk to him about your concerns.  Give him a break, and help out to make the track better.
