What is wrong with Peterborough???
« on: July 11, 2009, 12:16:37 PM »
Just noticed they cancelled tonights racing, Here in toronto the Sun is Shining now and there is no rain on radar. Think about all the OSS teams that were there and had to leave. I guess I'm off to Sunset instead.

They have been calling for rain today all week
and I just checked the weather channal and still calling for thunderstorms,so I think JP just saved every team about $400 .I think you should phone and say thanks for saving you the gas money.

Its now 4:30 Sun is shining and no rain in sight!!!  JP cost the NSCA teams money, most teams leave at 6 or 7 in the morning with 2 to 5 hours drive to get to the track. When he called it at 11 most teams were almost at the track with the hauler plus a second vehicle with the crew. So to turn around almost 40 vehicles and 80 people (who some had to take time off of work) when they are almost at the track cost a lot of money and is a very bad call by the track. Espesual when the Radar was 100% clear for the rest of the day at 11.

I just made the last second decision not to go anywhere tonight, was just about out the door headed to Barrie... checked the weathernetwork and some t-storms just developed over Lake Heron....not sure exactly who will get hit by them, it's a crap shoot

Predicting the weather up here in Peterborough is just about impossible. JP made the right call in the end. The rain, wind and cold conditions would have made the show impossible to complete on time. It's 9:38 right now and the wind is gusting and rain is around the corner... It's been off and on all afternoon and early evening. There certainly would have been no crowd in those conditions.

I'm up near buckhorn this week-end and can attest to the unsettled weather Saturday afternoon in the area.  Even if it didn't rain enough to cancel the show, most fans would have stayed home looking at the sky.  If it were my track, calling it was the right call just for attendance reasons.  If your not prepared to blow some tow money in a touring series, get a car for your local track and stay put.

Yep it sure did!!! I was suprised at the size of the crowd too, considering it started raining around 6:15 for about 10 mins.

Silverstone  You bet they ran. May have rained buckets for about 20 minutes, but Mark,Linda and Steve decicided to wait it out and sure enough it quit raining and the sun shone and low and behold we had a full night of racing. A little windy at times and a little cool but a heck of a show on the track. Real good crowd too. Got a lot bigger as the night went on as diehards from the rained out tracks made their way to sunset.I dont know what it was ,but i cant remember a night of so much side by side racing,2,3 and even 4 wide in some cases. Great call by the new management to wait out the rain and give the fans another great night of racing. See you next week.

Steve: I don't know about the photos but I thought you were going to answer the question in the subject with: "They don't run 100 lappers every Sunday" ;)

My crew took some video of the Chase for the Colours. Peterborough Speedway also sells DVD's of each race the following weekend, so you might want to check with them. One thing is for sure, after that race, there's not going to be many Peterborough cars even trying to make Autumn Colours in the fall with the power house cars of 88, 9, 10 and a few others. I bet the only cars that try are Amanda Connelly (16B), Jamie or Dave Horner (14 / 14B), Tim Burke (99) and Randy Bull (54). Just about every out of town car that showed up had the best cars by a factor of 10. The powertrains alone probably outclass everybody by a wide margin. Amanda and Dave were the only ones that could keep with the leaders. The top 8 lapped everybody by a min of 2 if not 3.

What surprised me was that we only had 2 cautions for the entire 100 lapper and no wrecks and certainly our team was happy with that! It was a really good show and I think the fans liked it.
