4 CYLINDER SPECIALS ALSO KICK OFF HOLIDAY DOUBLEHEADER

Thorold, Ontario (June 23) Cotton is celebrating its 30th year as Niagara's complete concrete contractor.
Their Saturday August 1st presentation of the ASCS Lucas Oil Patriot Sprints will pour the foundation for an exciting night of racing at Merrittville – forming a great kickoff to the annual Civic Holiday Doubleheader.
”It’s shaping up to be an awesome start to our Holiday doubleheader,” relates (Merrittville GM) Erica Bicknell, “the lightning quick winged wonders … the aroma of the alcohol … it’s an event not to miss for sure.”
The first Saturday in August sets up an event that’s been a tradition at Merrittville Speedway since 1972 – make it yours in 2009 and follow the Big Block Super DIRTcar Series to the Thorold d-shaped oval for the 17th annual Trevor Wilkens Memorial 100 presented by Toolneeds – Monday August 3rd.
Commemorating the 17th running of Merrittville Speedway’s biggest event - the days leading up to the event honors the memory of the up and coming driver of the Pete Cosco Haulage 17c 358 Modified – Trevor Wilkens - who passed away far too young from cancer in the summer of 1993.
From the first event in 1972 through to this year’s edition – a who’s who of DIRTcar Modified Racing converge annually on the Canadian showplace to take on Merrittville’s own talented field in the Civic Holiday Classic.
In preparation for the Holiday Monday Event, the ‘Fenwick Flyer’ Tom Huppenen leads the King of the Golden Horseshoe Series after winning the opener at the Ohsweken Speedway in his Best Western Cairncroft Hotel #12.
Leading up to the second ASCS Lucas Oil Patriot race to be held at Merrittville and prior to an Arcade and Stateline doubleheader this weekend - Jared Zimbardi currently leads the overall standings by 2 points over Bryan Howland who won their first event at the Thorold d-shaped oval back on June 24, 2006.
Howland is a two time and defending Series’ Champion and will be amongst a field that includes the Breens - Blake and Bobby as well as Don Adamczyk is from Williamsville, NY, Derek Jonathan from Lewiston, NY, Scott Kreutter from Alden, NY and T.J. Newton from Batavia, NY are some of our western NY "locals"
Kevin Job from Campbellville, Stan Zanchin from Fort Erie, Tim Zack from Dain City, Travis Cunningham from Grimsby, Mikey Kruchka and Kevin Loveys from Hamilton and Glenn Styres – owner of the Ohsweken Speedway are some of the Canadian contingent that have already announced their intentions of visiting Saturday August 1st.
Merrittville Speedway’s Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series’ Fans can also look forward to the Original Pizza Logs Sportsman Division sharing the spotlight as they will compete in their 2nd Niagara Motors King of the Crates 40 lap Event of 2009.
Greg Panunte won the first event and leads the Mini Series that is looking for the ‘Niagara Motors King of the Crates’ as all drivers that compete in the Original Pizza Logs Division share one thing in common – the GM 602 Crate Engine.

The inaugural Niagara Motors King of the Crates Champion will receive a $500 Gift Certificate redeemable at Niagara Motors towards the purchase of a GM 602 Crate Engine for 2010. .
The 2009 Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinder Triple Crown Series will also stage its 2nd 20 lap Special with Rob Goulding heading that points race.
