Full Night of Non Stop Action!

For Immediate Release
July 11, 2010

It was a packed race card of non-stop action this past Saturday Night as Dekeyser Excavating and Workman Auto Repair presented the Southern Ontario Sprint Cars and a number of other events to make it an unbelievable night of action at Brighton Speedway!  Adding to the excitement of the sprints was the second edition of the Excavator Olympics with Ed and Derek Dekeyser competing against one other in a number of events, including crushing and tossing cars around before the two of them hooked on to a Volvo Station Wagon and tore it in two for the large crowd on hand.  Other special additions to Saturday nights show was a quick eight lap school bus race with just seven of the busses taking some hot laps in preparation for their July 24th show down where we expect a field of fifteen busses.

In addition to the schedule was a special appearance by Glenn Styres from Ohsweken Speedway who brought his two Seat Sprint Car and gave out rides to Track GM Angela Rinaldi, Track Announcer Huck Flindall and one lucky fan who got to do full speed laps around the 1/3rd mile oval.  “There was no hesitation on the track when Glen put his foot into it” commented Angela Rinaldi at the end of her five lap spectacle.  Recalling her distaste for roller coasters she mentioned that perhaps she wouldn’t repeat the experience but track announcer Huck Flindall at the age of 70 was busting at the seams and enjoyed every second of the speed that the 410 sprint hit the track with.

To follow the intermission action was the Bill’s Johns Comp 4 feature with the #12 Kyle Sopaz of Carrying Place and #01 Brandon Gregory of Trenton battling it out once again with this time Sozaz  holding  off the hard charging Gregory. The #2 of Brandon Mowat, substituting for his sister-in-law Leslie Mowat came from the back of the field to finish third in this face paced comp 4 drama.

The Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modified Feature saw rookie driver Adam Nayler of Trenton pick up his first feature win of the his young career but it didn’t come easy with the #11 Dan Ferguson of Picton who has been nearly flawless in the season  with 4 feature wins applying the pressure to the rookie.  A late race caution allowed Ferguson to make the to pass #9 Matt Vanderlinden of Trenton to move into second but with only five laps left the Rookie held on with Ferguson settling for second and Vanderlinden coming across the line for third.

The Southern Ontario Sprints came to the starting grid next and local favorite #11 Chris Jones from Demoresville got the luck of the draw and started on the pole position alongside the “Batman” Adam West from Ridgetown.  At the drop of the green Jones wasted no time and took off immediately with the rest of the 20 car field in tow.  Action back in the field was fierce however Jones held a commanding lead until the first caution came out on lap four as #67 Chris Durand spun to a stop in turn four. When the green flag came back out, #0 Glenn Styres “The Ohsweken Flyer” made short work of West and # 71 Travis Cunningham to move into second and try to chase down Jones.  The caution would fly again on lap 7 and this would now but Styres right on Jones back bumper.  As they went back to green, Jones went low and Styres went high and once again to the crowds delight Jones pulled away.  The crowd got what they wanted as Jones came across the line for his first ever Sprint Car feature win and the crowd went wild as Jones climbed the wing of his #11 sprint Car.  Jones was followed across the line by Styres and Cunningham.

The Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks feature was round two in Larry’s Towing Triple Crown Series and it was a familiar face in victory lane as #72 Doug Anderson of Trenton made his way from deep in the field to take the lead by mid race in a hard fought battle with number #91 Kraig Handley of Picton.  Anderson was able to hold on for the feature win for his fifth feature on the 2010 season.  Following Anderson and Handley across the line was the #12 of Adam Whaley for his best finish of the year.

The Quinte Towing Stingers race was won by #41 Mike Fletcher and Brett Minaker  won the 8 lap bus Dash as he tested out his bus for the upcoming July 24th Bus Race event.

Be sure to be here next week as Brighton Speedway presents the first ever Mid-Summer Scorcher featuring a $1,500.00 to win Late Model Race and $1,000.00 to win Modified Race.  Car counts are expected to be high in these divisions as invaders from Eastern Ontario and Upstate New York travel to Brighton to take on our best!  Free Flow Petroleum presents the Christmas in July fan appreciation and the Gord’s Water Vantastics for our Salute to the Troop’s Military Appreciation Night, all CFB Trenton personnel are admitted free with ID!  For complete details and sponsor information please visit www.brightonspeedway.com.
