Mid Summer Shootout Delights Fans at Canada’s Toughest 1/3rd Mile Oval

By Peterborough Speedway Media

With extended laps for all divisions, the Mid Summer Shootout – presented by Country 105 – at Peterborough Speedway gave fans everything they’d been expecting...and a little more.  Heading into the hot night of racing, the point battles in each division at the bullring west of the Liftlock City were tighter than ever, with the front runners separated by just a few markers.

The Battlefield Equipment Rental Four Fun division has been a season long battle between Ryan Oosterholt and James Townsend.  The pair continued their dominance, as each driver claimed a qualifying heat win.  Point leader Bill O’Hara and Tyler Junkin split the Moi Parry Spring Service Renegade Truck preliminary rounds, while Chris Mulders, Brandt Graham, Miles Tyson and Dan Demers each earned a Peterborough Hyundai Mini Stock checkered flag.

Bailieboro’s Matt Spence grabbed both Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car heat races, with Steve Foster, Chris Mitchell, Mike Wallace and Jack Horner taking the opening rounds of action for the Vanguard Self Storage Late Models.

In feature event action, Oosterholt and Townsend continued to hold the hot hands, claiming the top 2 spots in the Battlefield Equipment Rental Four Fun ‘A’ main, with Andrew Massey grabbing the final position on the podium.  Even though he’d hoped for a strong finish, luck wasn’t on his side as Rob Harwood dropped out after just a single lap of the Moi Parry Spring Service Renegade Truck feature.  Tyler Junkin took the win, followed across the line by Bill O’Hara and Andy McCann.  The Peterborough Hyundai Mini Stock feature saw just a single yellow flag and some great side-by-side racing.  Chris Mulders took the win, with Ryan Oosterholt and Danny Benedict second and third.

The point battle in the Paul Davis System Thunder Car division got even tighter after their feature tilt, with Matt Spence enjoying a stop in Dart Heating and Air Conditioning victory lane.  Donny Beatty and Craig Scott completed the top 3.  Thrilling action continued with a caution free Vanguard Self Storage Late Model 35 lap feature tilt.  The main event saw plenty of passing and great side-by-side racing. When the dust settled, Cory Horner rolled his #79 machine to the winner’s circle.  He was followed across the stripe by point leader Craig Graham and Jack Horner.

The Ontario Modified Racing Series – powered by Techtonix – made their Peterborough Speedway debut, with the #95 of Rob Warnes taking the win.  The series is tentatively booked for a Saturday, August 17th return for the Fan Appreciation Toonie Night.

Short Track Saturday Night:  Blake Watson and Mike Wallace made their first Vanguard Self Storage Late Model starts of the year.  Ken Huntington and Tom Podd joined the Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car ranks.  Action continues Saturday, July 20th as Pepsi presents a Fan Appreciation Toonie Night, with the Battlefield Equipment Rental Four Fun, Moi Parry Spring Service Renegade Truck, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car, Vanguard Self Storage Late Model and Hurricane Midget divisions.

Peterborough Speedway’s 2013 season is presented in part by Paul Davis Systems, Reinhart Trailers, Dart Heating and Cooling, Pennzoil, Pepsi, Country 105, Sound Off Signal and Peterborough Automotive
