Coughlin Makes it Two in a Row At Anderson Speedway

Salem, IN. (July 24, 2016) – JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance points leader Cody Coughlin continued his hot streak in 2016 with CRA by getting the win in Saturday night’s Pick A Part 100 Presented JEGS.com at Anderson Speedway. It was Coughlin’s second straight series win after going to victory lane at the series last event on June 18th at Salem Speedway. It was Coughlin’s fifth CRA win of the season, including his three wins with the ARCA/CRA Super Series, were he also leads the points.

Coughlin started the blistering hot day off by being the Boyne Machine Company Fast Qualifier and setting a new track record, Coughlin would then put his Crew Chief Jack Smith on the pole when he drew a six for the events invert. Smith would take off at the drop of the green flag to lead the first 54 laps of the event while Coughlin was working his way to the front to close on Smith’s tail. The pair battled through a couple of restarts, traded the lead a couple of laps, before Coughlin was able to slide under Smith and make the pass to take the lead for good on lap 70. Coughlin would have to fight off Scotty Tomasik on the events final restart at lap 85 to hold on to get the win.

“I really like this place, it’s a lot of fun to race here,” remarked Coughlin in Victory Lane. “I want to win the Championship, the best way to do that is to win races, that’s our goal. It was fun racing with Jack (Smith) up front again, I have to thank him and my whole crew for giving me a great car today!”

With the win and some bad luck for Smith when he had to drop out at lap 85 with a broken rear end, Coughlin has extended his points lead. Coughlin was awarded the Sweet Move of the Race Award for his pass of Smith to take the lead for good on lap 70.

Tomasik would hold on to take second, his best ever finish with the series. 2014 series Champion Dan Leeck would battle from his 14th place starting position to finish third. Leeck picked up a Great Lakes Tire/Hoosier Racing Tire Performance Award and the T & K Trucking Hardcharger Award. Phil Bozell came from his ninth place starting position to finish fourth and picked up the Fluidyne High Performance Cool Under Pressure Award. Austin Kunert got his first ever series top five finish coming from his 15th place starting position to finish fifth and picked up the AR Bodies Cool Move of the Race.

13 year old Michael Clancy Jr. picked up his second straight VanDoorn Racing Development Rookie of the Race Award with his sixth place finish. Brandon Oakley’s Team was awarded the PitBoxes.com Pit Crew of the Race Award after working on the car in the pits after heavy damage from an early on track incident to come back and get a seventh place finish. Fred Hopkins picked up a Great Lakes Tire/Hoosier Racing Tire Performance Award, coming from his 17th place starting position to finish ninth, his first ever series top 10 finish.

The next JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour event will be the $5000 to win Bud St. Amant Memorial 125 at Spitzer Motor Speedway on Saturday, August 6th. More information on the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance is available at www.cra-racing.com.
