At Grand Bend, you can race a 6.5 micro from 7-15 years old, and you get to travel a little bit.

Not in competitive oval track racing, a micro is probably as cheap as you are going to get.

Edit: By cheap, I mean low cost.

Check the classifieds on www.grandbendspeedway.com under Used Micro-Sprints, 440's, & Equipment.

You could go to the JCARRACING.Ca website and  choose classifieds, and then select the link for used sprints. I'm not sure how up to date it is though. Going rate is approx $2000 to $2500 although there will be deals out there. Some people are asking more depending upon whether they are selling a lot of extras with them.

Brian Kipfer of Brian's Service in Dashwood had a micro that he was willing to sell and I have never seen it listed on the website. We bought a mini truck from him. His stuff is in very good condition and he is very fair to deal with. Brian's Service Centre (Dashwood) Ltd  - 519-262-3634

Good luck. The 5 years we ran micros were awesome and I'd recommend it to anyone.

The micro sprints do not yet have a full travel schedule like the junior late models or mini trucks. Grand Bend Speedway is the home track for micro sprint racing. Micro sprints have gone to non points events at Varney and and last year went to the frosty special as a non points fun race. This year Brad has added a travel points event for the micros at Sauble Speedway, and the micros will be back at the frosty special.

This is a good first step towards more travel events and possibly a separate traveling series if enough interest is generated. I believe that it benefits all tracks when the kids are able to race at the same tracks that their dads and moms race at. This makes racing a true family event and builds fans and future drivers for stock car racing. I'll get off my soap box now. LOL.

Best to talk directly to Brad or Sue Clark at 519-247-3370. You will need racing experience to jump directly to the 9hp mini sprints or be 16 years old. Given your age without experience you would have to start in the micro kart "A" division. This changes what I recommend you do kart wise. Get a 9hp chassis and run a 6.5 engine. This is legal and common in the "A" division given the size of most of the drivers. This also means you would only have to upgrade the motor to a 9hp to race in the mini sprint division when you are ready.

Possible contacts for karts are Rich Coburn at 519 263-1579, Stan Rees at 519 294-6523, Jamie Hamilton at 519-345-2054.

We still have both our karts which sound like they would work perfect for your situation. Both sprints have raced in both the 6.5 and 9 horse divisions and are suited for a driver your age and up. Call Stan at 519-294-6523.

I took the same approach when I started racing. I found a good car, talked to potential sponsors, did some research, and then went to mom and dad, and it worked out pretty good.
