Two contacts take the Audi RS3 LMS off from the battle for the podium and forced the Pit Lane Competizioni car to retire, the team 2nd in points with a 3 markers gap
Nevers Magny-Cours, France - After the podium conquered in the Silverstone 24h, the Pit Lane Competizioni Audi RS3 showed a great potential in the 12H Magny Cours, grabbing the first row on the starting grid thanks to a great lap by Filippi, who covered the 4411 meters of the French track in 1:49.562. The team fought all race long for a place on the podium but two contacts, unfortunately, forced Arnold-Ferri-Filippi-Vescovi to retire due to gearbox problems after 9 hours of racing.
The weekend started well for Pit Lane Competizioni. After the good times posted in free practices, the team scored the second best time in qualifying with the Frenchman John Filippi, ensuring to the Audi RS3 LMS to start the race from the first row. It was Filippi to take the green flag in his home race, exiting from the first turn in P3 after starting from the dirty side of the track. The red Audi #122 has seen all the drivers alternate themselves at wheel, maintaining a good race pace that allowed the Audi to keep the third position until the fourth hour, when a contact with Salini's Ginetta forced Vescovi to an unexpected stop at the box. Back on track in P4, the RS3 LMS was again protagonist of another contact during the eighth hour, this time with the American Zack Arnold at the wheel. Unfortunately, the crash damaged the German car’s gearbox and forced it to stop with only three hours left to the checkered flag. The Pit Lane Competizioni car was classified in P12 overall and P7 in the TCR class, a result that allows the team to keep the second position in the championship standings, just three points shy of the lead.
"It was a pity not to have the chance to finish the race. We could reach the podium once again and score some more important points for the championship. - commented Roberto Remelli, Pit Lane Competizioni Team Principal. "Even here in France, our Audi was very competitive: we started the race from the first row and we fought all time long for a step on the podium. Filippi confirmed to be a very quick driver, Arnold and Vescovi raced a very solid race, while Ferri found a very good feeling with the car, clocking very interesting lap times. Shame for the two contacts, the second one ruined the gearbox and we preferred to stop to avoid a bigger damage. But I'm satisfied about what we shown on track, we are working on the right way and you can check it with our performance. Next round will be in Misano, we want to race a very good performance in our home race track!"
Next round of the 24H TCE Series is scheduled from 7th to 9th June on the Misano track, hosting the 24h, but Pit Lane Competizioni will be back on track already next week, at the Adria International Raceway. On the track near Venice, the Italian team will field a SEAT Leon TCR for Nicola Baldan and an Audi RS3 LMS for Max Mugelli in the TCR Italy, while there will be three Leon Cup Racer for Bettera-Guerra, Pegoraro-Tramontozzi and Carlotta Fedeli fielded in the single-make trophy of the Spanish brand, organized by SEAT Motorsport Italia.
