A very decievingly warm day greated the teams as they entered the pits for what would turn out to be one of the best nights of racing at Barrie Speedway this year. The car counts were good and the racing was better....two-three wide everywhere, with excellent, close finishes! Evidently the heat did get to the drivers on thsi night as there were alot of cautions and crazy driving, especially in the four cylendar classes. Now onto my kick ass report.

In the Chargers race there was excellent action, with Chrystal Doucette, Steeve Melson and Dave Crumbie all starting relatively close to the front. The green would fly with Jeff Heighington and Tia Dale out fornt, but they would quickly be shuffled backwards as the hard chargin Steeve Melson would slice through to the front on lap three making quick work of P1 and P2. He had that mustang on rails and so, too it appeared, did Chrystall as she was following steeve through the forray joining hium at the front with 11 to go. Melson was starting to put a car length between himself and Doucette when a caution would fly, putting the two nose to tail again. Dave Crumbie had made his way to third by this point and was looking strong. Onthe restart Melson caught Doucette sleeping and pulled 3-4 cars on her at the flag stand, but 'gas peddal' had other ideas as she would begin to real in Melson with about 6 to go, then a break for Doucette when a caution would again fly bringing her and Melson together once more. This really did seam to be a two horse race even though they were all bunched up. When the race restarted Chrystal did get a good restart and was right on the 38's bumper, but it appeared as if the cars were too evenly matched as she could get to Melson and not bye him. The two would cross the start finish line and take the checkers nose to tail...This was definitely fore-shadowing what was to come on this night. Give Crumbie a top three and Casey and Melson rounded out the fab 5.

In the Pure Stock A division race, I was actually in it...not doing too well mind you, but well enough to not be able to pay attention. I can tell you this..tnhere was a couple caution that happened right in front of me...one involving the 20 of anna milligan and the other involving team mates Horst Ziebell in the 114 and Tanja Huffman in the 14....Beau Burrows was also involved and damaged but he was able to return to the action and get back towards the front.  I know that Brandon Watson won again and Dave Burrows also had a good run, not sure where he ended up though...hopefully Dave Vokey will be able to give a better run down of this race.

In the XCOPPER Thunder Car division, we would witness the second best finish of the night...and thats saying alot as this was the best finish this class has seen all year. Brad Holden would take the early lead from Luke Gignac and was looking like he was gonna run away with it, just like he has int he last couple weeks...man he has that car hooked up. Holden was dicing through traffic opening up a 15 car length advantage on second and third, the 44 and 00 of Doucette and St. Onge.  Doucette needed a caution to ave a shot at it and it was not out of the realm of possibility as all four divisions were definitely losing talent in the heat at certain times. Doucette got his wish as the 49 of Flyin' frank Davey stopped in turns 1 and 2, obviously somethingbroke on his car, shutting it down. This would bnch upt he field with 5 to go...Holden and Doucette would take off and stretch some cars out on the rest of the field and it looked like Holden would be able to hold onto the win as he was driving his ass off to keep in front of the hard charging 44 of Dave Doucette. Doucette would make his move with two to go and get to the door of the 97 car and as they came off 4, coming to the checkers, Doucette was able to pull a quarter car on Holden, sending the entire extreme contingent inthe infield into a collective leap...This was truely a great dual. Kudos to those gentlemen.

After amazing racing in the other three divisions, the Late models took to the track with high expectations and the 16 car field definitely delivered. The race would start off with the 13 of Robert Thornbow and the 36 of Stoyan Zoutich in P1 and P2, Zoutich would grab the lead ont he first lap and would stay up front for a bit, but Robin Jongen seemed to ahve a hto rod on thsi night....his car was faster than most, and he was doing it on the outside, which is very surprising and is good int he coming weeks, as passing ont he utside becomes paramount to be able tog et to the front. Robin would get into the lead on lap 4, and was looking strong. Baker wpould follow him through and get into second qwith McWhirter third and Mike Brown 4th. Mcleod and Lewis were battling for 5th. McLeod would clear Lewis and start working on Brown as baker and jongen were putting cars on the rest of the field. McLeod's car looked good, btu there were too many cars to get bye to get to the front on thsi ngiht. McLeod would make contact with Brown while working bye him for 4th and after that there were sparks coming from Browns car the rest of the night. This would beocme a two horse race, just like int he other classes as McWhirter and McLeod were left to battle it out for third. All of us watching the racer were sure Baker would get him, Baker is the points leader, the winner of three races, and is all around on e mof if not the fastest guy at BSW and no offence to Robin, but he has never been brought up in that thought. But did he ever make me eat my words as he was FLYING around the third mile tri-oval...turning lap times, by my watch in the 14.6 second range. It looked like Jongen would be the victon on thsi night, but Dave Lewis was trunked and put into the turn 4 wall, setting up a great finish. Jongen would restart first with Baker right on his back bumper. Baker would pull out and try to get by the youngster on the outside, but Jongen was having none of it, putting up one hell of a fight. They took the white flag at a dead heat, and as they came outta two it appeared jongen had the lead by inches, then when they came outta 4 Baker got a great drive and would clip Jongen at the checkers bye about 6 inches. The crowd was crushed as everyone was pulling for the underdog, but what a great finish. Best race of the year, bar none. After the race int he tech shed, Robin said to me, Dave Bradley and Dave Vokey, "Too bad he couldn;t have let me have this one", too bad indeed Robin as we all woulda like to have seen you in victory lane. But thank you for an amazing finish.

In other news it was a packed house again at BSW, definitely 3,000 plus in attendance...the autograph session was cancelled as everyone was rediculously raey tonight and there were a tonne of cautions...in one of those cautions was charger driver joe snow, who's car was completely destroyed and he was taken to hospital to ahve his arm or shoulder checked out...hopefully he will be okay...Rick Drinkwater made his first appearance at the high line this weekend in his stout looking #8 charger car, welcome Rick and it will be nice getting to know you the remainder of the year...and finally, our very own Thunder 6 on here was brought up by announcer Dave Bradley as Bradley let everyone in attendance know that we call him Tex..so basically that nickname is sticking whether u like it or not Kevin..lol...

I will be doing the Barrie Speedway write ups next week as Dave Vokey heads accross the country in search of tail...have a great time ut in BC Dave! lol...all in all it was a fantastic night of racing..shorts and T shirt at 11:00 at night and even hotter racing on the track. see ya'll at the greatest show on asphalt next week.
