Brennan Forseille was looking forward to caring for the Wes Skakun
Memorial trophy for another year, but other drivers in the Golf’s Car
Wash Street Stock Division had other ideas on Friday night at Wyant
Group Raceway.
There was a hint of autumn coming as the air was cooler than we have
been used to lately, but it was still comfortable and the large crowd on
hand witnessed some great racing as we kicked off events for the ROCK
102 Show and Shine Weekend, a weekend of automotive and entertainment
related events in and around Saskatoon.
Kevin Mclaggen’s #63 Chevelle got off to a good start and was leading
the pack going into the first and second cautions at laps 9 and 12. It
wasn’t until lap 16 that Curtis Houben moved the #81 Camaro to the
front, a position he held through the rest of the race.
Kevin hung onto second until lapped traffic came into play around lap
31. At that point, Scott Barrand worked his way around Mclaggen,
followed by Brennan Forseille a few laps later, and then Mike Rea.
Those four cars set up a train, following each other for a number of
laps, until Ryan Fredrickson got a second wind in about lap 45 and was
coming on strong. Lap 46 Fredrickson worked by Rea and was starting on
Forseille, but just ran out of laps.
The #81 RPM Camaro of Curtis Houben takes home the Wes Skakun Memorial
trophy, while Scott Barrand in the #1 Tailgatorz Camaro and #28 Brennan
Forseille go home with the smaller trophies.
The #3 BDI Canada Camaro of Craig Katelnikoff won the heat and qualifier
race, but tire issues in the feature dropped them back to a 7th place
finish.
The battle continues in the Tiger Automotive Pro Truck Division, with
the top three in points consistently finishing in one of the top three
spots in each race. Alex Leschenko’s #01 Family Pizza Ford F150 took
first in the heat race and the Tiger Automotive Feature, while Aaron
Anderson picked up the qualifier win with the #19 Kel-Cor Racing Toyota.
The #49 OK Tire & Auto Service Dodge of Shantel Kalika was second in the
heat and feature, third in the qualifier.
Hopefully we’ve put all the rain of this summer behind us. Farmers need
dry weather to get their crops off and we need the sunshine to finish
our season. But we do have a few rained out races to complete yet.
Friday night we put one of those to rest, running double Sportsman features.
Neil Schneider is on a mission in the #93 Burco Electrical Contractors
Dodge Avenger, but he could only pull out a win in the heat race.
Rookie Cale Siemens continued his winning ways, picking up the top spot
in the qualifier and the first feature in the #28 Lucky Bastard
Distillers Pontiac Grand Prix.
Cale found himself in third for the second Shell V-Power Sportsman
feature race, with another rookie, Ryan Thompson taking home his first
commemorative checkered flag in the #33 Cynertia Electric and Control
Camaro SS. The #49 Northern Lights Casino Monte Carlo of Ben Busch was
second.
Next week sees another big race night as we wind down summer and get the
kids ready for school. What better way to celebrate than a night at the
races watching the third race of the season in the Sky Financial Super
Late Model Series.
Its an action packed night as the top SLM cars from western Canada will
be running the Lakeview Insurance 150. The Law Enforcement Guardian
Bandoleros and Saskatoon Shrine Club Sask Legends are back and the
Golf’s Car Wash Mini Stocks will be running an extra feature, making up
for a rainout.

open at 4:30 with the first green flag at 6:05pm.
