By Clayton Johns

OHSWEKEN, Ont. (August 1, 2018) – Ohsweken Speedway is set to kickoff the month of August with a different twist to its Friday Night Excitement program as Bradshaw Fuels presents Emergency Services night. All Emergency Services personnel, including police, fire fighters, paramedics and first responders will receive free admission with their professional ID.

On the track, the Late Model Open headlines the night’s action as the top Late Model drivers from across the province converge on Ohsweken for the only Late Model race of the season on the Six Nations 3/8-mile oval.

The Action Sprint Tour powered by RaceRivalz.com will make its second appearance of the season at Ohsweken. The Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks will run a full program while the HRW Automotive Mini Stocks will start the night with their July 20 feature that was postponed due to rain before continuing into a full race program.

Race time is 7:30pm with grandstand gates opening at 6:00pm. Adult admission is just $14 or $7 with a new, unwrapped toy while Seniors (65+) and Youths (13-17) are only $10. Kids aged 7-12 are only $3 and Kids 6 and under are free. This pricing is in effect for all weekly Friday Night Excitement shows in 2018.

Late Model Open

Dirt Late Model racing returns to Ohsweken for one night only in 2018 with the Ohsweken Late Model Open on Friday night. Entry for the Late Model Open is available to Crate Late Model and Open Motor Late Model. The event will consist of eight lap qualifying heat races, a four-lap dash and a 20-lap main event. Last season’s race saw 29 drivers from Brighton Speedway, Humberstone Speedway, South Buxton Raceway and the state of New York to form a very competitive field.

At the end of the 2017 event, it was Brighton Speedway champion Charlie Sandercock who drove to Lucas Oil Victory Lane ahead of South Buxton pilot Jason Haskell while Brighton veteran Kyle Sopaz navigated his Crate-powered car to a third-place finish, proving that anybody can succeed at Ohsweken with the right setup. Entering this week’s race, Sandercock is the current point leader at Brighton, Chad Homan of Macedon, NY leads the weekly standings at Humberstone and Dale Glassford is the point leader at South Buxton.

Action Sprint Tour powered by RaceRivalz.com

The Action Sprint Tour powered by RaceRivalz.com make its second appearance of the season at Ohsweken and the race will mark the beginning of the second half of the season for the upstart tour’s inaugural season. The tour is coming off a thrilling race last Saturday night at Merrittville Speedway that saw 15-year-old Jacob Dykstra drive to Victory Lane and become the tour’s third different winner in five races.

Ohsweken weekly drivers Shone Evans and Aaron Turkey both have a pair of wins on the tour this year. Turkey scored the victory in the tour’s inaugural race at Ohsweken on May 18. Current Ohsweken point leader Jesse Costa is also the Action Sprint Tour’s high-point man. Entering the sixth race of the season, he leads Turkey by 15 points while Evans, Dykstra and Ryan Hunsinger round out the top-five.

Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks

Trevor DeBoer became the third member of his family to earn an Ohsweken Speedway feature win last Friday night and seventh different victor in the Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stock division’s 10 Feature events this season. Dave Bailey’s fourth win of the campaign in the second Feature last week solidified his position as the point leader. Joining him in the win column so far this season are Ryan Dinning, Logan Shwedyk, Mark Bazuin, Ken Sargent and Lee Winger.

HRW Automotive Mini Stocks

The HRW Automotive Mini Stocks also saw a first time winner last Friday night at Mike Sarantakos drove his “Purple People Eater” No.6x to victory lane to become the sixth different winner in nine races.
