Wear Red; Show Your Support at Speedworld Friday Night

HALIFAX, NS (August 12, 2008) - This Friday night Scotia Speedworld will celebrate Canadian Forces Night - and encourage its patrons to wear red to show their support for our military.

The event is round 11 of 15 for the 2008 Lockhart Truck Centre Weekly Racing Series and will culminate with a special extended length 50-lap feature race for the Wallace Equipment Hobby Stock, along with heats and features for the Sojourn Signs Bandoleros, the Miller Tire BFGoodrich Thunder and Lightning divisions and the Legends Cars.

With the season winding down every lap of every event is now critical for the competitors as they chase their respective division championships - and the glory that goes along with it.

Michael Alexander has been on top of the Hobby Stock point standings most of the year with four feature wins on the season; other than one DNF all the rest of the third-generation driver's finishes have been in the top five. As a third-generation driver the teenage student is well aware attrition can take its toll in a longer race, especially at this juncture of the season. In spite of his impressive season to-date Alexander holds only a slim 22-point advantage over Alex Johnson who sits only 18 points ahead of third-place Terry Moore. The top three have 1022-998-980 points, respectively.

Season-to-date points leaders in the remaining Lockhart Truck Center Weekly racing Series divisions include Terry Roma in the C&R Auto Supply Sportsman, Derek MacCallum for the Miller Tire/BFGoodrich Thunder Cars, Andrew Starks for the Miller Tire/BFGoodrich Lightning Cars, Justin MacNeill for the Legends Cars and Dylan Blenkhorn for the Sojourn Signs Bandoleros.

Only Roma and MacNeill have previous Scotia Speedworld division championships on their resumes, so it's likely the facility will continue a tradition it has built over its 21 years of operation in providing a training ground for the racers of the future.

Grandstand admission for Canadian Forces Appreciation Night is just $12 for adults and $2 for youth aged eight to 15. Children seven and under are admitted free at Scotia Speedworld when accompanied by an adult.

Pre-race festivities start at 7 p.m. with Bandoleros heat races with the full-race card starting at 7:30 p.m.

The grandstand gates and box office opens at 5 p.m.
