Wally Wilson Scores Top-Five Finish in Busy Weekend of Racing
OWEN SOUND, Ontario — Competing at two different tracks in a pair of separate series, Wally Wilson picked up a top-five finish.
Competing at Peterborough Speedway on Saturday night with the OSCAAR Modifieds, the sophomore driver scored a sixth and seventh in his qualifying heats. Starting at the back for the feature, he avoided a first-lap wreck before steadily making his way forward for a 13th-place finish despite dealing with rear suspension issues.
Racing at Sauble Speedway on Sunday afternoon with the Outlaw Midgets, Wilson posted a fifth-place finish in his lone qualifying heat. Due to missing the series’ Saturday event, he was forced to start from 19th for the 25-lap feature. He would begin to make his way forward, breaking into the top-10 by the time the first caution waved at Lap 18 for an incident in turn four. Restarting 10th, he got a good restart to jump up to sixth, and continued to move forward, getting alongside Brian Woodland for fifth at Lap 22, completing the pass a lap later. He would try to keep the progress going, but ultimately crossed the finish line with a fifth-place finish.
Wilson will return to Sauble Speedway this weekend on Saturday, August 11, this time behind the wheel of his OSCAAR Modified. He will then race the No. 69 Outlaw Midget at Sunset Speedway on Saturday, August 18.
