Title: How about making Talledega the final race of the Chase?
Post by: username on November 19, 2007, 11:14:48 AM
I thought the race yesterday was for the most part boring.  Can you imagine yesterday's race had have been run at Daytona, Talledega, or Bristol?  Weather permitting I think it would have been way more exciting.  Killer stress for the drivers but oh well...

I would like to see Daytona be the last race.... start/finish at Daytona make Daytona that much more speical.

Boring in that although there was still a chance that a wreck or a flat could have changed the outcome, it seemed less likely that it could occur at that track.  The cars seemed to get really separated at the mile and a half tracks and other than the re-starts that had three wide racing, it got really spread out.
The restrictor plate races have me on the edge of my seat for 500 miles and the big one could happen that changes it all....and the later in the race it gets, the more likely it gets...seemed to be the other way around yesterday.  bristol because it is a short track with a lot of rubbing...

being involved in the big one is usually all luck. imnsho i would not want a cup champ based solely on luck where skill and teamwork have nothing to do with the outcome.

A championship is not decided on the last race alone, all 10 races in the chase have an equal effect on the outcome of the championship, there fore whats the difference. if your scramble the order of them all the outcome would be the same. IMO the last race should be daytona it would make it alot more exciting

There should be a road race in the chase too.  I agree that Homestead is not to exciting to watch.  A daytona final would be better.

As far as I am concerned Daytona should start and finish the season...BUT if that is not an option, I would love to see Dega get it....as far as a road race is concerned...this is a must addition to the chase for 08 imo.

I don't think you'll ever get to see the final race at a super speedway or at a road course, for the simple fact that they are in the chase, the super speedway has the chance of the big one, where one of the leaders could get caught up in it and the road course might favour certain drivers over others. I think NASCAR wants to keep it as even as they can for the chase? Not that I agree, but that's just the way it is.  ???

honestly it is a complete season that wins a championship and not the last race. It should not matter where the final race is held. I think that a road course should be in the chase so there are all types of tracks in the championship races.

not to stir the pot here but the underlining theme i am receiving is crashes good, good racing without carnage is boring. imnsho the boring thing about homestead was the tv coverage, there was 43 cars on the track and all i saw was hour upon hour of dupont and lowes. following two cars around while 43 are racing is want leads to boredom, i think it is time for espn and others to go back and watch some tapes from the late 80s and 90 to relearn how to cover a race. with 43 cars you can be assured that somewhere they are close enough to each other to be in the same frame. espn's coverage is third rate at best.

I'm not even gonna get into how bad espn's coverage is or I would be here for an hour.....

but one thing that I believe your alluding to..and I'v always wanted this is show us where the RACING IS HAPPNING!  all the stations that cover do this ...I understand your gonna follow the leader and you can..but you can also show the 3-wide battle for 20th then go back to the leader..or the guys battling that are a lap down......

Tracks they should consider as the last race:
BRISTOL
DARLINGTON
ELDORA !!

hill its not that i want a crash it's that 43 cars are running within a second or a second and a half three wide all the way back and it seems like it's gonna happen.  there was that stretch of the COT race at talladega (i finally spelled it right lol) when all the fords were running nose to tail a little ways back but you have to admit that the restrictor plate races are more edge of your seat than the majority of the intermediate tracks.
and also it seems the restrictor plate races give the guys on the second tier teams a better chance at a good finish if they play their cards right...i'd hate to drive in it but it's the best tv and you have to race it in the chase anyways so why not maximize the chance of there being a change of position in the standings for your last race.

because that change in position would be luck not skill, having the dega race earlier in the chase allows a time frame to over come bad luck with skill, remember the bad luck can still follow you to all the tracks look at skinners truck race at homestead.agree with mid about darlington and bristol though not about eldora.
