Racers always look forward to exploring new territory and Saturday, June 16th drivers and teams with the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series – powered by Torque Builders Inc. – paid a first ever visit to Sauble Speedway. Randy Hollingsworth – who along with Rick Warnes and Bill Pickford make up the tour’s team of officials – says that taking the show on the road is the latest opportunity to increase the OMRS brand awareness.
“Fans at Peterborough and Flamboro have cheered at our shows for the past few seasons,” said Hollingsworth. “Now, its time to open the doors to a new base of support for the type of racing we’re able to provide when our series rolls to the green flag.”
9 teams made the trek to the NASCAR sanctioned Sauble Speedway, where tour officials and the track promotional group decided to run a pair of 20 lap feature events instead of the traditional program of qualifying heats and an ‘A’ main. Points earned in both events were tabulated to determine the overall finishing order.
Reigning series champion Brad Stevenson took the opening checkered flag over John Baker Jr., Rob Warnes, Chad Strawn and Anthony DiBello. Rick Warnes, Hollingsworth, Craig Stevenson and Willow Barberstock completed the finishing order. In the second round, John Baker Jr. – the 2016 champion – earned the checkered flag. Brad Stevenson, Strawn, Rick Warnes, DiBello, Rob Warnes, Hollingsworth, Craig Stevenson and Barberstock were next across the stripe.
Ontario Modifieds Racing Series notebook: Next on the schedule will be a Saturday, June 23rd start at Peterborough Speedway. Saturday, June 30th, OMRS teams will run their first show of the year at Flamboro Speedway.
