Speedway Welcomes Back Old Favourites

On Saturday, August 1st, Brighton Speedway will not only be inducting legends to their  Wall of Fame, but more recent fan favourites will be coming home to tear up the track in the second round of the Lucas Oil Dirt Sportsman East Series.

An induction ceremony for three individuals who have contributed to the development of grassroots racing at Brighton will kick off the night with hosts, co-announcers,  Huck Flindall and Tim Whitehead.

“It is always an evening of reliving moments past, and celebrating the lives of a few people who everyone involved with racing is sure to remember.  I know the names being revealed will engage people in conversations about some of their favourite racing moments in the more than 40 years at Brighton Speedway.  It promises to be a great night”, said Whitehead, who has been at the track as an employee for 25 seasons.

Adding even more excitement is the APEX Sandblasting & Painting Presentation of the Lucas Oil Dirt Car Sportsman Series, The Lucas Oil East Series is a three race event with two events at Brockville and the one Brighton event scheduled for August 1st.  The winner of Saturday’s event becomes a guaranteed starter for the September 25th Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup and the Dirt Track Digest All-Star Race being held at Brighton Speedway.

Bringing this race to life for local fans is the return of the 2007 Canadian Modified Champion, Doug O’Blenis.  Doug started his racing career 10 years ago, when he raced against his father, well known  Don  O’Blenis, in the Street Stock/Pro Stock Division at Brighton.  He raced in the class for 4 years and then moved up to the Canadian Modified Division and celebrated many wins and awards as a gentlemanly and sportsmanlike driver during his 5 year stint.  His proudest accomplishment was the repeat win of the Danny Reid Memorial Race.  After spending every Saturday night for 25 seasons at Brighton, the O’Blenis family moved to Brockville Speedway this season so Doug could pursue the checker in his new Sportsman Modified.

Everyone is looking forward to reuniting with the O’Blenis Family and are also welcoming back Canadian Modified Driver Chris Taylor, and well known Adam Turner, son of legend Paul Turner who will also participate in the Sportsman Series race.  It is sure to be a great night of pedal to the Metal, dirt flying, crowd revving, racing action.

Rounding out the action on the track are the Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modifieds, Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks, Bill's Johns Comp 4, Picture This Pure Stocks and the recently rained out Gord's Water Vantastics.  Throw in the Comp 4 Mechanics Race and wrap the night up with the Ferguson Racing Chase for the Cancer Cure, 5 Lap Walk in Support of Cancer Research , and there is something for everyone at Brighton Speedway.  Green Flag flies at 7pm.
