OMRS Teams Head into Battle at Peterborough Speedway

There’s no place like home.
It isn’t just one of the best-known lines from the Wizard of Oz. For drivers and teams with the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series – powered by Torque Builders Inc. – home is the friendly confines of Peterborough Speedway. With 10 race dates on the 2016 schedule, 6 are at the venue widely known as Canada’s Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval; the first of which is Saturday, May 28th. Bill Pickford – who along with Rick Warnes and Randy Hollingsworth make-up the OMRS team of officials – says the tour has enjoyed a special bond with the track.
“J.P. Josiasse and Dave Sikma have been great hosts over the past few seasons,” said Pickford. “We don’t just enjoy racing there. Its also where we host our annual ‘Test a Mod’ open practice day. The crew at Peterborough really stepped-up to the plate when Mosport’s oval closed and we’re happy to have them be part of our team.”
Saturday, May 21st OMRS kicked things into high gear as the series paid its first ever visit to Sunset Speedway, north of Toronto. It was a strong night for Oshawa, Ontario’s John Baker Jr. as the former Thunder Car standout – who scored a trio of checkered flags during the 2015 season – earned his first triumph of the young season. Brad Stevenson, Stu Robinson Jr., Ryan Dick and Ryan Babin followed Baker across the stripe.
OMRS Open Wheeled Hot Laps: Qualifying heats at Sunset went to Brad Stevenson and John Baker Jr…A dozen Ontario Modifieds Racing Series teams signed-in for the event, but only 11 answered the call for the main event after Duane Cinnamon’s machine suffered mechanical issues…After finishing 2nd in the 2015 point standings, Nick Lees will be taking the first half of the season off, but is scheduled to fill-in for his brother Alex on a couple of occasions, before returning to his own equipment later in the year.
Saturday, May 28th at Peterborough Speedway will see pit gates open at 3:00, with the spectator grandstands unlocked at 5:00 and the first qualifier on the track at 6:00.
