Built on same platform as Dodge Colt and shared 1.5 engines and transmissions from 1990 to 94. I dont see anything about a 1.8 being available.

The Dodge Colt comes in a 1.8

Yes that would be stock on a Colt but not offered on the Excel

To make it simple.. If that car never came with that engine, why waste your time putting it in?

Not like a 1.8 Mitus is a good motor.... If the car didn't come with it, the joke is on who wasted their time putting it in.

If you have the mechanical ablity, tools and time to make that swap, it would be far mor productive to use it some where other than 4-funs....

^^i;d have to wager a guess that the car originally passed tech with the stock motor. However, the motor blew on the first night (might have been second i dont remember) and i imagine the 1.8 is the only one they could find to fit that car.

So this is more a case of desperation than it is a blatant attempt at cheating

I would have to agree, chances of finding a runner 1.5 for a Hyndai are slim to none.

Chances of getting lucky and finding an engine that never came in a car, that fits without more work than starting with a new car, would be a miracle

The car originally passed tech with the 1.8..the motor did go a few nights in from overheating. It took the owners a week or so to find the 1.5 but realised the car would be completely gutless. It took them another week or 2 to find a 1.8. The 1.5 and 1.8 directly swap. The only hiccup for the average person would be the wiring harness is my guess....If anyones ever watched this car go down the track it cant be beat down the straight...but when it hits the corner it turns like a boat
