Yes, the tickets were expensive. Yes, the car count was a little disappointing (although more cars does not necessarily mean better racing). Yes, there were too many caution laps.

But...

It was by far the largest crowd I have seen at Cayuga in years, and there was some great racing.

I like the 'lucky dog' rule (and just ask the 09 how they like it), and I like the the side-by-side restarts.

Also thought Andrew Ranger had a very impressive debut...

Like Just A Fan said.  Plus the level of competitiveness looked good.  Up front racing was tight the whole the night.   8)

well i took the grand kids & family last night & i agree a little expensive but the racing was great. the attendance last night  i felt was very good as compared to other years i have been at cayauga. the only thing that really ticked me off was the autograph session, i feel its a lot more exciting for the kids & fans to visit their favorite drivers with their cars & have an opportunity to have a chance to talk with them & ask questions.

Is the posted awards an IMPROVEMENT over last season?

I'm not sure what last years pay-outs were, but it DOES seem really low. $5000 for a win?
Poor Whit collected a whooping $915 for running 90 laps? Kinda really doesn't seem worth it?

I totally agree !!!

For those who were unable to be there; They had tables set-up behind the grandstands, with all the drivers seated at them for the autograph session. Way too congested, and you certainly weren't able to chat with the drivers (or crew members) for any length of time, couldn't get (close-up) pictures of the cars, etc.

Cayuga for some reason has had the autograph session back behind the stands for a few times now. I think that started back when they had the NASCAR guys show up few years back.

Now if you look at Evan's pictures that he took you will NOT see many people in the stands. It looks more like Flambourgh Speedway. Also  I was told by a few people now that there was not many people there. So I guess everyone's has their own desrciption of how many were there. The others I have talked to use to are 3 crew members and some fans themselves.

If it was crowded in front of the tower you have to remember those are the VIP......FREE ticket holders seats.

I am glad the weather held up!!!  :)

Not to pick on you Racewoman but if you were not there then stop talking about the crowd please.  The crowd was a good crowd but it was a late crowd.  As someone posted earlier they all rolled in around feature time.

No reason to show up at 7 am when the gates opened.

If you are talking about the pictures in the 'Gallery', I guarantee you that was well before racetime...

Anyway, I guess it's all relative. It was ceratainly not a Delaware/CASCAR crowd, but nor was it like recent Cayuga/CASCAR events where there were more people in the pits than in the grandstands  :'(

Hey man, did they have some sort of "kids" price? Or was it 45 across the board?

Great that you took your family though.  :) Tis the way it should be done!

In other notes, I'm actually keen to see if anyone got a 1st lap photo of the crowd. Its pretty obvious those pics Evan put up were much earlier than race time...you can tell that just by the lighting.

Anyway, I'm sorry I didn't get to go...but real life gets in the way sometimes, and I still have my season ticket so we'll try again next time.

HUTTERPOWER I don't know where you get off telling people what to post and not post after all the false information you have posted on here but I am guessing if you have dogs you have to have someone else call them for dinner because they don't believe you.

Speaking to someone this morning that was there yesterday he put the crowd at around 6000 perhaps Evan or someone else who is credible would post their estimate .I don't know if that would make it a break even proposition for the track but with the record high ticket price and record low purse I would think so.

I now understand why no one wanted to post what the purse was after seeing the payout this morning . I was shocked to see the numbers

  1st -  $5050
  2nd - $3140
  3rd - $2640

Compare that to the Busch East series last weekend that paid

  1st - $14300
  2nd - $9500
  3rd - $5945

or the truck race in Mansfield yesterday that paid

  1st - $52150
  2nd - $32125
  3rd - $21515

I have a hard time getting my head around the fact that they can even get 23 teams willing to race for less money then was paid to run a 100 lapper in the 70s yet find people that are willing to pay triple the admission. It does beg the question is this really Canada's premiere series if OSCAAR is paying more on a dollars per lap basis ?

On a little more up beat note Oswego was awesome  Randy Ritskie won the Jim Shampine Memorial for the Supers and Pete Brttain beat out Tony Hirschmann and Jan Leaty for the Richie Evans Memorial 100 for modifieds . Ticket price 25 bucks and Canadian money taken at par and you have to like that.

 * Everybody at Oswego, Supers and Modified made a **** of a lot more then anyone at Cayuga did yesterday too

Anyone know when this airs on television?  The camera will have all the action - - and likely a few shots of the grandstand throughout the event.

Pinecrest your a goof.  I told you 24 cars would start and 23 started, off by one.  My mistake.

Yep I was told wrong information about the schedule.  The Montreal Promoter changed his mind and did not finalize the contract.  If I lose my credibility because of it I am ok with it.  I will redeem myself.

I am not known as a whiner though.

6000 people is an excellent crowd at Cayuga.  The front can hold aprox 10,000.  So if 6 grand is a bad crowd then I think I can tell racewoman her information is not accurate.

Everone please cool it and try and get a long.

The race season is in full swing and there is much better things to do then fight with each other.

Thanks

I agree with Pinecrest, purse was absolutely terrible for todays market.  Totalled approx 35,000.

Kudos to whoever posted it, thats a big improvement.

925 to start, how does that go towards covering expenses, 6 crew at least one nights accommodations for the majority, food for all, .............. at 45 a pop the racers should not be subsidising the track and NASCAR ............ its the dummies in the grandstands that should be revolting, they are paying top prices assuming that the money is going to the racers NOT.

Stayed at home SRAMA

I thought it was one of the better crowds for Cayuga. I'd call the grandstands about half full. Considering the size of the grandstands, I thought that was pretty good. Yes, there have been better attended races, but I've been there many times with barely a couple thousand fans there. Most people seemed to show up closer to 8PM. It was good to see some exhibitors there for the fans, more would have been better. As far as the price goes, yes $45 is high but the season pass is the way to go even if you can't make all the races. According to Tim Chapman, the $99 deal is being extended.
The race? A good battle between Thomson and Beauchamp in the later stages. A scoring tower would be nice.
Also, it was good to finally meet you Evan. I hope that you'll be able to make it to more of the races.
Give it time folks, I've been to a lot of races and racetracks and witnessed sparse car counts and crowds.
