The Great Crate Race at Brighton Speedway Coming up this Weekend

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design – September 12, 2011

After months of planning, and a lot of hard work by everyone involved, the first annual Great Crate Race is set for this coming Saturday night at the Brighton Speedway.  Entries continue to roll in as we get closer to the September 17th date.

Qualifying events have already taken place at some tracks for this first annual event, and Max Blair, Lee Gill, Phil Potts, Sean Beardsley, Tim Sears Jr., Larry Wight and Greg Belyea have earned themselves a guaranteed starting spot for the Great Crate Race.  Max Blair earned his by winning a Fastrak Late Model Series Race at Humberstone Speedway on May 29th.  Lee Gill qualified at Chapman's Can Am Motorsports Park in the Go Nuclear Challenge Series debut back on June 10th.  Phil Potts qualified for the race by winning the Canada Day Championship at Brighton Speedway while Sean Beardsley qualified at a Brewerton Speedway Special Napa Know How show.  Tim Sears Jr. and Larry Wight qualified through Go Nuclear Challenge Series events at Brewerton and Fulton Speedway last month, while Greg Belyea picked up the final qualifying spot at Mohawk Raceway earlier this month.

Guaranteed starters will still need to try and race there way into the starting 24 positions however by virtue of their guaranteed spot if they fail to make it in through the heats and the B-mains they will be allowed to start tail on the field from the 25th spot back.

So far, with less then a week before the event, 17 Crate Late Model competitors have officially pre-registered prior to the August 15th pre entry dead line, while many others are expected the day of the race.  Brighton Speedway regulars Greg Belyea, Kyle Sopaz, Andrew Hennessey, Charlie Sandercock, Corey Earl, Beau Brown, Brandon Mowat, Terry Hunt, Adam Nayler, Mark Rayner, and the Fowl Mood Racing team of Phil Potts and Ron Wadforth have confirmed that they will be in attendance as well as Can Am regulars Lee Gill, Michael Ramos, Richard Raison and Joseph Banks.  Fulton Speedway regular Shayne Tenace has also confirmed that he will take part in the first annual event and he will also field a second car for local Modified driver Adam Turner.  Brighton regulars Caley Weese, Rob Perry, Greg Peake, Elmer Stevenson and Matt Vanderlinen have also verbally committed to running the Great Crate Race as well as Zach Amo, Mike Trapp and the Kingsley team consisting of AJ Kingsley, and Tim Sears Jr.  Many other drivers from Pennsylvania, New York and western Ontario have been phoning and emailing to show their intentions in attending this event.

McDougall's Insurance & Financial is the title sponsor of this event, with additional backing from Excel Tower Service, Brighton Speedway, Hotch's Auto Parts, Dibbits Excavating Ltd. and American Traditions Motorsports. Gillee's NAPA, Tenacious Racing, and Finish Line Web Design have also been added as contingency sponsors with Gillee's supplying cases of Brad Penn environmental friendly oil.

All of the laps have now been sponsored at $25 per lap.  The lap money will be spread throughout the field giving everyone a chance to take home a little extra cash.  There will also be a Finish Line Web Design halfway bonus, an Image Landscaping Most Laps Led Bonus, and a Tenacious Racing has supplied a set of Bilstein Racing Shocks for the the Hard Charger Award.

With a purse of over $20,000.00 this is the largest paying race in Brighton Speedway history and now almost another $5,000.00 in contingencies and lap money we are looking forward to hosting such a prestigous event!  The return of the Late Models in 2010 has been a huge success and fans and drivers alike can't wait for this race!

Brighton Speedway will open their gates on Saturday at 5:00PM with racing action set to begin at 7:00PM.  Pit gates open at 2:00 pm and hot laps are at 6:00om  In case of inclement weather, Sunday, September 18th will be the rain date.
