Sorry BAR, back in the day, I was at both Cayuga & Flamboro almost every weekend. The Saturday night crowd at Flamboro was usually pretty good but no where near sold out. The Friday night crowd at Cayuga was usually pretty sparse. So much so that one year Bob Slack tried to go head to head with Flammy on Saturday nights. That didn't work and, after a few weeks, he went back to Fridays. On Friday nights, he was usually competing with Speedway Park and some years, Delaware.
Cayuga was usually sold out for specials however especially the ASA/ACT shows. Why? Because they were well promoted. Slack usually brought in NASCAR stars to race and Hanley and a bunch of other local guys were competitive.

Your other comments about the state of racing today are qute true.

Instead of pining for Cayuga to run weekly on Friday nights again, how about going to a track that DOES run weekly on Friday nights that is only 10 miles away from Cayuga? (Ohsweken)  ;)

i was at cayuga the last weeks they ran regular friday nite racing and they had no fans and no cars...i remember because i brought my car and found out it was closed.
then they tried the thursday nite show and wallace pulled the plug after one nite...i finished 2nd and got an apology letter from roger slack a few days later.
cayuga's whole thing is racing, camping and music...and they would still be doing well if they didnt let it get so out of hand.
we would take our car from flamboro and set up a tent and camp over saturday nite, listen too a few good ole canadian bands, have a few pops and then race on sunday...and if it was over in time dump off the car and get over to humberstone too watch.
it was a whole fun , family atmosphere...i remember guys coming from as far as peterboro to windsor and a few from the states to race street stocks and alot had their families and a few said it was their first time ever sleepin in a tent....the opp would walk thru every once in awhile.
then they just let it go wild....underage kids drinking, drugs, fights, and everyone trying to outduel the other with stereos from boxes and cars friggin blaring all nite, people steal other peoples wood for their fires or colers of beer...we drove out the gate to go to town for coffees and the opp were at the exit and i said you should checkup in there because someone could get hurt and the one opp raised his hands and say "i'm not going inthere".
and then they started getting cheap with the payoffs and jacking the prices for the drivers....my last time there i paid $70 for the weekend pass even tho it was 11 pm saturday nite, had a barbaque stolen, saw 2 fights, almost saw a trailer catch fire cuz the idiots were building a gigantic fire, helped get medical attention for a young girl we think was given what they now call the "rape drug", burnt off a new hoosier, used $60 race fuel, came 18 or 19th and got $17.....the the Nascar stars race with Stewart and the Arca show last year were the only times i've been back since.
i hope the new owners turn things around....but leave Fridays to Ohsweken and Delaware in this area.

Take it for whatever it's worth, but the Wolverine Outlaw Midget Series (WOMS) which was scheduled to run a co-sanctioned show at Cayuga with NEMA on May 30th has taken the date off their tentative schedule.

Too bad...it would have been the first full size midget event in Ontario in a long time...

Maybe somebody affilated with JCAR might know when the original Cayuga schelude was out it showed 4 Cayuga dates this was also shown if not mistaken on JCAR website also as of today when I checked JCAR has also pulled off their schelude.Noticed that there is a meeting this weekend for this group.Maybe they will be releasing their schelude and it will tell whether Cayuga is actually on their schelude.Sure looking like this Cayuga schelude is possibly getting small & smaller with no NCTS races and now by the looks of it no NEMA (WOMS) and what is next.Would be nice if somebody from Cayuga would let the racing public no what is going on there. Will they race or won't they.

OK so I can't seriously remember the last time there was a weekly schedule at Cayuga in the last 30 years - was it pre 1975 ?

Also the track is not that far out from most centres  1 hour to Fort Erie, 90 minutes to Toronto

They stopped racing weekly there after the 1978 season.

NEMA never had it on their schedule in the first place...A lot of series don't put dates on their schedules unless there is a signed contract...

The original schedule I picked up at CPT has us racing at Cayuga May 30,  July 25, and Aug. 22, with a 9hp Modified Invitational on July 11. Now, the schedule on our website has us racing at Grand Bend every one of those dates... doesn't look good for Cayuga.

part of the reason Cayuga did well on the ASA shows etc was that Molsons handled the advertising, not the track. You can follow the decline of the track closely with the Molson pullout, when they channeled their advertising dollars into the Indy Car race in Toronto instead.

Is there no one from Cayuga that visits CRO  ??? Is there no one at Cayuga to update their website  ??? ???
If they want anyone but seagulls to show up at Cayuga this year they should get their act together.

Lucy..you gots some splain'n to do  ::)
