10th in Hoosier OSCAAR Modified Points – John Harper

A veteran in racing and in his fourth season of the series, hard work over the years paid its diligence this season for John Harper in a big way. He finished in the top-10 in the series points, but more importantly – scored his first career OSCAAR victory.

After missing the first three events of the season, things got off to a rocky start for Harper at the beginning of the season. July certainly wasn’t a month to write home about as both starts would see Harper finish outside of the top-15.

Though as the series headed into the summer, the veteran found his stride and began having success. He would start off the month of August with a sixth place finish at Peterborough Speedway. He would then head to Sunset Speedway, scoring his first career podium finish after leading some laps through the middle of 30-lap feature. Without a doubt, fans were staying to pay more and more attention to Harper.

All the pieces would come together for Harper when the series headed to Flamboro Speedway, as he was able to pilot his No. 79 Transaxle Parts, Briar Dri-wall and Grisdale Racing Products Modified to his first career OSCAAR victory. Harper was able to grab the lead after a mid-race restart, holding off Matt Barton for the remainder of the event.

The following weekend at Full Throttle Motor Speedway would not go as planned with a finish outside of the top-10, but that certainly didn’t get Harper down. He would make his second trip to Delaware of the season, getting redemption after the struggles in July with a fourth place finish.

He would then go back to Sunset Speedway, leading some more laps on the Innisfil, Ontario oval en route to a fifth place finish. He would then complete his 2015 campaign with a sixth place finish at Peterborough Speedway.

With two heat victories and his first career feature victory, it certainly marked a successful season for one of the veterans of the tour. After just missing the top-10 in last year’s standings, there also has to be a bit of added satisfaction there with the success had.
