I'm not surprised at this development as I knew the 'NEW RICHMOND' was far too good to believe. Another businessman having a vision and no nowhow on how to realize it. First, don't make grandiose plans you know you cannot achieve. I would have been happy with some new paint and usable bathrooms. Second, don't charge outrageous prices. You'll never get the numbers of fans you want that way. I skipped the ASA show because I can spend my money more wisely at a local track and get at least the same show. I've said it time and time again. Charge less at the gate to get the fans and then draw them to the concessions with reasonable prices, good food and fast, great service. That's where the money is. And lastly promote. The cancelled LM show was promoted so poorly it is pathetic. I talked to crewmen from Jackson and Morgan at KD Friday and they didn't even know about the race. Some of our crew were at McColl's last week and they said alot of the Delaware guys didn't even know about it. How can you advertise the race as a Delaware invitational and not tell Delaware ? Is it that hard to send a rep for Cayuga to Flamboro, Kawartha and Delaware , hell even Ottawa, with a piece of paper with the payout, rules and schedule ? I would bet if they ran a combined LM and LLM invitational and promoted it properly, maybe even bill it as the Ontario Championships, scheduled it for a Sunday that worked well with other track schedules they could get the crowd and the car count they were looking for.

One thing that is being lost in all of this is how Cayuga SH#@ on Kawartha. Originally KD was going to run on the 25th. They had their schedule out first. After Derek saw the Cayuga schedule he contacted Cayuga to try and work something out and was given the cold shoulder. So Derek changed to Friday the 24th. Now the braintrusts at Cayuga cancell the whole damn thing anyway. Great way to do business when you are the new guy in town. Alienate all and anyone who may be able to help you.

I know I don't know all the ins and outs about being a track promoter but wish I could get a shot. I couldn't do any worse than some of the one's out there now. Anyone know of any job openings please PM me so I can get my resume out soon. LOL :D ;D :D

 Quote from GiddyG
The night the ASA/OSCAAR race was on I stopped at the chipwagon in Cayuga before going to the track.  The guy running it didn't know anything was going on at the track and he hadn't noticed an increase in business.

This is typical even at Nascar tracks. If the locals aren't race fans they're not likely to know what is going on at the area race track. Every year year we stop for breakfast at the Big Boys in Brooklyn, Michigan in August and have talked to the staff. Some are aware that there is a race but that's about all. We've noticed this at other tracks in the US as well. I think that we take it for granted and assume that just because we're in the area for the races that everyone else should be aware of what's going on. This applies to most events, not just racing. I think that we take the approach that " I'm a race fan, why aren't others? ". I've been guilty of this all my life. Some of my friends could never figure out why I was into racing, just as I could never understand the fascination with tennis or soccer. This is a racing forum/board so obviously our views are going to be biased.

As far as any increases in area businesses. If the crowds are relatively small, the businesses won't see a significant increase. Only a percentage of out of towners will stop on the way to the track. I've lived in Cayuga since 1991 and have seen the local retailers run low on supplies (especially at the LCBO, go figure) when a large well attended event has been staged. As with any event, the better attended, the more hits in the sales department. This is nothing new.

I hope these are just growing pains and trial by error on the part of the track. I'd like to see Cayuga Speedway continue. Maybe they had too many smaller events. Maybe fewer, larger events as in the past is a better fit for this track.

Since Cayuga is cancelled, what would a Delaware LM have to change to run at Kawartha?

cro since Cayuga would seem to be a neutral site maybe a OK corral shootout between sunset and Barrie. that may put a stop to all the shouldve couldve wouldve and if only talk constantly on the threads. on the other hand from an outsider looking in it is better that watching the soaps.

42crew we dont have to change much. Either a plate or a two barrel cant remember which. And probably some weight depending on what you run. ie coil overs, struts and what not. I recall. Call Derek he'll let you know.

Your exactly right slapdown. This show very easily could have happened if they put some effort into it. Somewhere I read four cars pre-registered for the event. That sounds about right to me, lots of us would have if they would have responded with some pretty basic details. How many laps, what kind of purse, times, entry fees and so on. We tried to contact them many times to no avail and so did alot of other teams in all the divisions. They got what they put into it.... nothin. unfortunatly so did the fans who bought season passes, myself included.

Delaware guys. Derek did away with the restrictor plate after the first night of racing. You will have to add weight because you don't have the small crate, not sure how much. Don't think you guys have any chassis things we don't have. Robblee had his late model there a few weeks back and dominated the show. Hope you guys can make it up here before the season is over.

I see on the Delaware schedule that the LM's have the night off on the 24th. Hope some of you guys could make the trip to the 100 lapper at Kawartha. I really want to see a good field of cars at this event and I'm sure a few Delaware cars will make the show a great one. Here are a few things you guys may need to know. Could some of you Delaware guys that read this board pass this info on to the other LM drivers this Friday?

All cars using KAWARTHA / OTTAWA /ACT /  QUEBEC LMS CRATE MOTOR option will be allowed 57% left side maximum and will maintain a minimum weight of 2800 lbs.
All cars using Flamboro / Delaware (88958604) CRATE MOTOR option will be allowed 56% left side maximum and will maintain a minimum total weight of 2950 lbs.
INVITATIONAL EVENTS of 50 laps or greater will give a spent fuel allowance of 50 lbs.

evan just a thought that 1999 post for cascar entry, maybe some of the cooperate name there would like to put up some dough for the shot out at cayuga, since i am in sask. and soon on my way to cowtown for the west race some one done there could pick up the ball and run with it. could you imagine the bragging rights to the winner of a neutral site race between barrie and sunset plus others.

Hey if anyone got contacts and if Cayuga would be willing to rent the take I would love to do something like this and I bet we could fill the stands.

Tim if you are reading this maybe you could contact us and let us know what Cayuga would want to rent out the track for a sunday feature.

Any sponsors reading this would you be willing to jump on board with this get in touch with me.

Drivers and teams let me know if you would like to be involved in a fun day of racing.

Can't promiss anything here but may be we could get something together. Anyonethat can help let me and others here know.

CRO Night Of Racing.

So we could do it like this they don't race each other but they each have a race and let the fans decide who put on a better show??
