NEELY CLAIMS LUCAS OIL CAN-AM MIDGET WIN #3

Rob Neely took home the checkered flag Saturday night as the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets raced at Flamboro Speedway. Taking his third win of this series, Neely continues to get stronger as the season goes on. Driving the #74 Mark Lafler Chassis with Bill Pippard power and the set up by crew chief Ken Lorenz was the key to the night's victory said Neely in winners circle. He also said "Thank you to Lucas Oil and all they do for us and the fans here tonight. Without you we wouldn't be able to do what we do. Thanks for being here." It was a Neely family winning Saturday as his daughter Kaitlin also won her go-kart feature race earlier in the day.

At the drop of the green in this 25 lap feature event the first caution came as a number of cars 'gathered up' in turn one with one lap in. Going to the rear for the restart were Adam Racine, Adrian Stahle, Todd Cresswell and Brandon Zavarella. Chris Holman then took the lead with Tyler Turnbull in second. Turnbull lost a motor in practice, put in a new powerplant before the heats and was ready to race. A strong Barry Dunn was third followed by Darren McLennan and Daniel Bois. Points leader Mack DeMan joined the top five one lap later followed by Neely from his 10th place starting spot.

Holman held command of the lead opening up 6 car lengths over Turnbull. McLennan passed Dunn for third and on the next go around took over second place from Turnbull. DeMan was now fourth with Neely in the top five. One lap later Neely stormed pass DeMan and set sails towards Turnbull. Lap 10 saw the caution come out for a spin by rookie Craig Pitchell, in his first race with the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets.

At the restart Holman was the leader but McLennan was looking for his second win in a row, having won at Sauble Speedway last Sunday. He made one swift move around Holman and took over the point. However Neely was right in the picture and on McLennan's tail. Holman held on to third with DeMan and Turnbull battling for fourth place. McLennan held the point for 2 more laps until Neely made his move on lap 16, taking the lead. He was clocked at 14.4 second laps as he turned up the heat. McLennan held a strong second as DeMan was now in third.

As the final laps ticked off, Neely was at the point as McLennan and DeMan raced side by side. With two laps to go the caution was again thrown for 3 cars making contact in turn 4. Rob DiVenanzo, Todd Cresswell and Adrian Stahle were all taken to the pits with damage. At the restart Barry Dunn spun in turn 2 tightening up the field for the final restart and one more chance for McLennan to make his move. Neely was not to be denied, taking the win, followed by McLennan, DeMan, Holman and a strong finish for Adam Racine in 5th.

The Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets head to Sunset Speedway as they compliment the ISMA Supermodifieds on Saturday, August 16. This once a year special event is not to be missed.
