FRIDAY NIGHT THUNDER ROUND TWO NEXT UP AT OHSWEKEN

By Tommy Goudge (May 19, 2009) – Ohsweken Speedway gets back in action this Friday, May 22 when Grisdale Racing Products presents Round Two of Friday Night Thunder featuring the Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Cars, ESSO Thunder Stocks, ESSO Mini Stocks, and Bombers.

The second season of Corr/Pak Sprint Car division action kicked off in fine fashion last Friday with twenty-seven drivers signed in for competition.  At the end of an intense night of racing, Tom Huppunen was the driver who visited victory lane and got the early jump in the points chase, but Ryan Hunsinger, Kevin Job, Glenn Styres, Dave Dykstra, and a host of others will be looking to take victories of their own this week.

The ESSO Thunder Stocks came out in full force on opening night, and more competitors are expected this week.  The driver they’ll be chasing is Shayne Pierce, who claimed the feature win on opening night despite a spin which forced him to make his way to the lead from deep in the pack.  Pierce will face stiff competition from drivers such as Mike Ward, Billy Bleich, Jr., Jeremy Bean, and Glen Leinen, to name just a few.

In the ESSO Mini Stocks division, Abel Castelein and Mitchell Brown renewed acquaintances on Friday night, with Brown getting the better of Castelein and claiming the feature victory.  Brown and Castelein are sure to be up front each week, but both drivers will need to pay attention to the rest of the field, with the likes of 2008 feature winners Kevin Hilborn, Chase Hess, and Mike Evers ready to contend as well.

The Bomber division featured a familiar face in victory lane last week as Karl Sault claimed the checkered flag, but Dale Cooke showed he will give Karl a run for his money each week. Cooke’s last lap attempt at the victory came up just short last week, but he is sure to be a contender all season.

Advanced reserved seat tickets for the World of Outlaws Late Models June 18 featuring guest star Ken Schrader, World of Outlaws Sprint Cars July 28 and 29, and Canadian Sprint Car Nationals September 18 and 19 are on sale now.
