By Tommy Goudge (June 9, 2009) – Another special event takes the green flag at Ohsweken Speedway this Friday night when Engine Pro Racing presents the Michigan-based American Sprint Car Series Sprints on Dirt tour, along with the ESSO Thunder Stocks, ESSO Mini-Stocks, and Bombers.

The ASCS SOD tour heads to Ohsweken with six events already in the books for the series.  Of those six events, Dustin Daggett has claimed four feature wins and finished fourth in another, but missing an event has kept him down in seventh in the SOD standings heading into the weekend.  Lyons, Michigan driver Gregg Dalman has used consistency to take the SOD points lead, with five finishes in the top ten out of six events.  Dalman has little breathing room heading into the weekend, with the last two series champions Brett Mann and Greg Norman just ten and sixteen markers behind, respectively.  The SOD invaders will have to contend with Ohsweken’s strong weekly contingent of Corr/Pak Merchandising Sprint Car division competitors, currently led by Tom Huppunen, who has claimed two of the first three features this season, followed by Ryan Hunsinger, Kevin Job, and Glenn Styres.  Currently tenth in the SOD standings and fifth in Corr/Pak points, Dain Naida is another favourite to consider this Friday, as the Belleville, Michigan resident claimed the Corr/Pak feature win at Ohsweken during the second round of Friday Night Thunder.

Unlike last season, the ESSO Thunder Stocks division has yet to see a repeat winner in the first three weeks.  Brad Herron became the most recent feature winner last Friday, taking the checkered flag ahead of Shayne Pierce and Billy Bleich.  On the strength of a feature win on opening night and two runner-up finishes in a row, Pierce leads the points standings by thirty-one markers over Jeremy Bean.  The next five drivers, including Glen Leinen, Lee Winger, Herron, Mike Ward, and Billy Bleich, are all within twelve points of Bean.

The ESSO Mini Stocks have so far been dominated by Mitchell Brown.  The young driver from Brantford has won all three features contested in the division so far this season, but is still only twenty-seven points ahead of Kevin Hilborn, who has claimed three third place finishes.  Last Friday’s runner-up finisher Chase Hess currently sits third in the standings, followed by Abel Castelein and Mike Evers.

The closest points battle heading into the weekend is in the Bomber division, where Dale Cooke leads Karl Sault by just two points.  Kacey Huffman is another twenty markers behind in third, while in fourth place is the winner of the last two Bomber features, Jesse McDonald, followed by Brad Hill in fifth.  Last week’s feature saw McDonald hold off Cooke for the win, with Brad Hill in third.

Advanced reserved seat tickets for next Thursday’s World of Outlaws Late Models “Six Nations 50” featuring guest star Ken Schrader remain available, while tickets for the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars July 28 and 29, and Canadian Sprint Car Nationals September 18 and 19 are on sale now.
