MacKinnon Takes Historic Victory at IWK 250

(Antigonish, NS. July, 23 2011) – Charlottetown, PE’s, Darren MacKinnon used a late race restart with three laps to go in the IWK 250 Presented by Steve Lewis Auto Body to wrestle the lead away from John Flemming (Halifax, NS) to take the win in the prestigious event. MacKinnon, who only led the final three circuits of the race recorded his second career Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour victory and the second of the season for the #18 Shaw’s Towing/First Choice Hair Cutters Chevrolet Impala. The 27 year old picked up the winners share of the $86,000 overall purse. Flemming, who dominated the race, led 227 laps of the event finished second ahead of Shawn Tucker (Fredericton, NB), who will unofficially take the point lead after seven events on the Tour. Completing the top five was George Koszkulics (New Glasgow) and Shawn Turple (Enfield). 

 

Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials kicked off the days activities, Mike Stevens (Riverview, NB) picked up top spot with a fast lap of 14.462 seconds.  Greg Proude (Springvale, PE) won the Fast Eddie Dash for Cash and earned the right to sit on the pole for the 250 lap feature. Mike MacKenzie (Dartmouth), NASCAR Sprint Cup Series superstar Marcos Ambrose (Tasmania, AUS) and Tucker picked up victories in the Dartmouth Dodge Heat Races. Flemming picked up the King Freight Lines Halfway and the Linde Most Laps Led Awards. The IWK 250 presented by Steve Lewis Auto Body took just over 2 hours, 10 minutes to complete.

 

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competitor Ambrose (Tasmania, AUS) ran up front for a majority of the IWK 250 Presented by Steve Lewis Auto Body but a pit stop late in the race had Ambrose mired in the field. The driver of the #11a Atlantic CAT Ford Fusion rallied to finish 10th on the 27 car field.

 

The Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour would like to thank Race Time Radio, Joe and Sue Chisholm, Jamie Maudsley and Sirius Radio for their incredible and historic live flag-to flag coverage of the 5th annual IWK 250 presented by Steve Lewis Auto Body. The next event for the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour is the Air Show Atlantic 100 on Saturday, July 30th, at Oyster Bed Speedway. MacKinnon became a first time winner here on the Tour’s first visit and will look to take his third win of the 2011 campaign this Saturday. Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials begin at 5:10pm with the Fast Eddie Dash for Cash rolling off at 6pm.
