LUCAS OIL CAN-AM MIDGETS SET FOR 48TH SEASON
The Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets held their practice/tech day at Sunset Speedway (Stroud, ON) on Saturday to get ready for their 48th season of open-wheel competition. This will be their 9th year under the Lucas Oil banner and they have seen a large growth in their roster for this upcoming year.
Seventeen cars, including 4 new rookies hit the track for practice day. Third generation Tyler Turnbull (#01), Ryan Fraser (#94), driving for Rob Neely, Cody Winn (#02), cousin of #48 Darren McLennan, and Dylon Smith (#14), in a midget he bought from #44 Tom Kyle all showed their talents on the tracks.
Top drivers from 2012 returned to also put down some quick laps as they look forward to the first race of 2013 Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets at Flamboro Speedway on Saturday, May 11th.
Times in the low 13 second range were turned in by Rob Neely, 2012 Champion, Darren McLennan, Mack DeMan, James Gray, Chris Holman and 2012 Rookie of the Year Adrian Stahle. Todd Cresswell has a new look on the #3 midget as well as a new Suzuki powerplant and was also quick. Rob DiVenanzo, now driving for David Balych in the #20, hopes to put the 'Buffalo Air Wear' sponsored midget into Victory Circle in 2013. Balych returned in his #12 TQ and will challenge the field in his 26th year with the Can-Am Midgets.
Chris Bauman (#22) showed up with 2 cars to shake down and Daniel Bois returned to drive the #49 for Cliff Walsh. Andy Mackereth jumped into TQ #4, owned by Peter DeMan for some quick laps as well.
The 2013 season for the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets will include 16 races at 7 different tracks. The very anticipated special show at Sunset Speedway with the ISMA Supermodifieds will take place on Sunday, August 18th. Mark your calendars.
