Hazzard County comes to Life at Brighton Speedway

On Saturday, August 8th, Brighton Speedway hosted the Dukes of Hazzard Theme Night, including Daisy Duke, Rosco Laugh and Hood slide contests as well as a real life chase of the General Lee around the 1/3mile clay oval , all as part of the Rapid Rad & Star 93.3 presentation of the Trenton Holiday Inn SOS Sprint Cars .

“The Dukes of Hazzard is a classic fast car show that everyone can relate to.  We knew it would be fun to have 4 year old Daisies and 10 year old hood sliders, a few attempts at imitating Rosco’s renowned laugh, and a visit from a true to life replica General Lee.  The finale of the Hazzard County  invasion had Bo and Luke Duke, in one of the many makeshift General Lees,  being chased around the track, over the jumps and through the infield by the Sherriff himself,” said General Manager Angela Rinaldi.  “The crowd loved the air the General Lee was catching and the two good ol’ boys took off faster than bad news travels…which for any Dukes fan was no surprise.”

Also no surprise to the near capacity crowd was the fast paced, exciting and down to the wire classic dirt track racing that is becoming the norm during the 2009 season.  Fans were on the edge of their seats as two local favourites, Chris Jones ( #11) and Rick “The Joyceville Jet” Wilson ( #42w)  went head to head in the Southern Ontario Sprint feature.  With both drivers facing different issues they handled their winged warriors with both skill and finesse.  Jones started second and took the lead on the opening lap of the 20 lap main event. Feeling completely under the weather the Demorestville native led the first 18 laps before Rick Wilson made his move for the lead. Healing from a broken hand, Wilson edged Jones at the line for his first SOS win of the season.

Other notable wins went to Charlie Sandercock of Trenton in his #57 Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modified, Warren Mowat of Trenton in his #46 Picture This Pure Stock, Terry Hough of Brighton in his #32 Bill’s Johns Comp 4, Andy Fletcherof Brighton in his #42 Quinte Towing Stinger and Cory White of Brighton in the Spectator One on One racing.

The next race event is Saturday, August 15th  and is the Behan Construction Presentation of the $5.00 PRICE SLASHER SATURDAY.  Admission at the gate is only $5.00 for adults, youth and seniors ( children pay regular $2) and the schedule includes the Brighton Automotive Fan Appreciation, Halloween Edition,  the Pro Stock Duel in the Dirt Race 2 presented by D.L. Services, and the Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modified Dash for Cash,  plus all of the regular classes at Brighton Speedway .  Green Flag flies in Brighton at 7pm on Saturday August 8th,
