There has to be a few hundred threads here dedicated to Fothergill, and I think it's great. Guys like him, usually go under scrutiny will full barrels. He has innovated many ways of "bending" the rules. I don't care if you like it or not, I think it's great. If a team can find a way to hide something, by all means do it. It raises the bar a little higher in other teams' creativity. I always get a giggle, when I hear they have tore him down again.... not because I'm mean, but because it means he found something others probably haven't or attempted.

I have Smokey Yunick's biography, and except from the fame.... the Fothergill crew reminds alot of his insanity. Like the time they ripped Yunick's car apart, the fuel cell was on the ground, and he started the car up and drove to his hauler. Cmon that's just awesome :)

Not an expert, just tried it, refused to listen to conventional thinking, broke all the parts trying

I agree 100% with your opinion. If it's not in the rule book......... Smokey (Henry Yunick ~ Best Damned Garage) was famous for creating parts, components, systems used in race cars, often the pioneer of racing parts such as the dry sump oil system for V-8's, reverse cooling systems, from his days on the Beach right into the mid 1980's. The fuel cell you were referring to, was a stunner to tech officials and it still took them another month to figure out that he had built 1" dia fuel lines, which could hold another gallon of fuel. The next race the rule book came out with a maximum 5/8" diameter line and how long the line could be from the fuel cell to the fuel pump. Smokey single handedly created NASCAR professional tech officials to become smarter than any other craft in the sport. There are others in the sport that were almost as talented as Smokey; Junior Johnson, Wendell Scott, Dave Marcis to name a few. I remember when Gary Nelson became Technical Director of Winston Cup during the Earnhardt, Elliot, Waltrip years, constantly poking around their race cars trying to find where they cheated. Nelson never did find any rule infractions, but there was always suspicion that those teams had secrets that were practically impossible to find. Accusations were always fun to read about in Circle Track / Stock Car Magazine.

Smokey is probably the driver of the following disclaimer that's applied to most LLM / LM rules books throughout North America (let alone NASCAR);

Any Part of the car not specifically mentioned or covered in these rules must remain stock. Stock parts are those found in OEM Parts book.

All engine, chassis and equipment changes or modifications not covered by these rules must be submitted to the speedway for approval or rejection.. No engine chassis or any other equipment will be considered as having been approved by passing through inspection unobserved. The management reserves the right to all final decisions on the interpertation of any rule or rules.

Some photos finally posted from Friday night.
I apologize for some of the image quality, but my camera was black flagged with a minor issue, but should be back up and running by Wednesday.  Had to borrow one, but it worked all right.

I think I recognize the guy in the background

Mat Box and Gord Shepherd take evasive action as Grover spins and Elliott get collected the wreck

Fothergil flying through the pack on the opening green, he passed 10 or so on lap number one

With rally caps on, Darrell Lake's crew celebrates

Larry is a big Kyle fan, and is ready for Wednesday

Watson and Gresel make contact in turn one - Gresel spun, Watson black flagged

Sheridan celebrates feature win number 5

Are you saying that tech should be dictated by the purse and not the rule book?

There are more ways to make a car or truck fast,I thought delaware went to crate motor so everyone wouldnt  have to spend all that money. So if they want to start opening them it cost them more money then they win. I think that team knows if u open a crate motor they are done at delaware so it s not worth it for the money or there rep.

The rules stipulate that the track is responsible for the cost of resealing a crate motor if they are torn down and found in compliance. The cost to the race team is only their time to pull and reinstall the engine. If it's found to be illegal - then, at the track's elective they can confiscate the engine (only seen that happen in the U.S.) and at minimum, all points and monies won are lost, including any prior events. Some race tracks then suspend the team as one track did in Florida - for a year.

The crate program has done alot for the sport and will continue to do so.
It was brought in for a good reason and I believe that anyone messing with one should be thrown to the wolves.
Does it happen? Yep. Has and is it happening in our own back yard? Probably.
If thack choose to open up the crate motor of the competitor that is dominating in the fashion the 33 truck is? As a competitor they better.
I need to know that I am on a level playing field thats what they were brought in for.
That being said the track should be flipping the bill for gaskets if found legal.
If illegal bye bye for atleast a year and not just the truck or car the team and the driver.

I think 33 is getting a bad wrap here as well on some accounts.
Paul is one hell of a driver Sid will do whatever it takes to win and the team will spend however many hours they need to for the top notch equipment out there.
I have just one question for everyone out there that is complaining.
Will you do the same? I know I won't I love racing and really enjoy doing it but I will not open my wallet to endless amounts and will not give up anymore time then I do for hobby racing its just not in me.
I for one looked in the mirror and am very happy with how my team runs with the effort and money we put in.

Lets just race and have fun with our friends because isn;t that what this is all about?
Hobby racing should be about maximum fun.

Much of what Steve says is true. I do not think you can say enough about the work that goes into a top running machine. Regardless of the motor Delaware is a bumpy track and does not present a good second groove. If you are not relentless in your weekly maintence program like I think the 33 truck is you fall. Paul is a good driver and takes advantage of where opponents are not doing their homework it can be that simple.
I am not one of his cheerleaders but respect the returns of hard work with efforts put forth.
33 truck seems to know how to work the track.

And the motor Sid had for sale. Do you know if it was a crate or maybe it was one of his old built motors or maybe it was even one of his late model crate or built motors. Well said Steve as usual.

Laker 77 is a good example of hard work from wreck to front of the pack in 2weeks.
It was the hard work that did this a lot of guys would have come back about mid pack so you gotta give the Lake team a plus for the set up work it's not all motor.
