Mack DeMan was in Victory Lane for the 5th time this season as the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets joined the race card with the ISMA Supermodifieds at Sunset Speedway on Sunday afternoon. With heavy rains in the area for the scheduled Saturday night event, the race was moved to the next day and a sunny sky greeted the fans. DeMan was excited to receive the large trophy as this special race is a treat to all the 'open-wheel' fans in Ontario. After standing on top of his car with the checkered flag DeMan said, "I want to thank Andy Mackereth for all his hard work during the week to make this car great, and my Dad and Mom for everything they do. I want to thank all the fans for being here and especially thank Lucas Oil for their for their 10th year of support."

At the drop of the green for the 25 lap feature Chris Holman, driving TQ #4 for Peter DeMan, took the lead with Adrian Stahle, a teammate of DeMan, in second. Lucas Smith was in third place followed by ISMA Supermodified driver Dave McKnight Jr. in the TQ #20 of Erin Kindred. DeMan, starting 8th was now up in the top five. One lap later the one and only caution came out for a spin by Darren McLennan in turn 4.

Holman kept the point for the restart with Stahle close behind as McKnight, former champion with the Can-Am Midgets was now in third. DeMan moved into fourth as Smith dropped to fifth place. On the next lap Rob Neely, currently second in points, joined the top five. Holman began to stretch his lead as DeMan raced hard with Stahle getting the spot for one lap as Stahle fought hard and got the spot back. On the seventh lap DeMan passed both Stahle and leader Holman to take the point. Neely was now in 4th and Barry Dunn rounded the top five.

DeMan was now in charge and opening a sizable lead over the field with Holman trying to hold off Neely. A very strong Dunn passed Stahle for the fourth spot. At the halfway point DeMan's lead continued to grow as Neely motored around Holman and set sites on DeMan. Dunn remained in fourth and David Balych joined the top five. Todd Cresswell, started 11th, and was now in a battle with Balych for that position.

With five laps to go DeMan now faced some lapped cars but took no time moving around them. Neely remained in the hunt but time was running out. With three to go Cresswell charged around Holman and took over third place. Balych remained in fifth. The checkered flag was shown for DeMan, followed by Neely, Cresswell, Holman and Balych.

Heats were won by Smith and DeMan. The 'B' Main was won by Cresswell. Off Note...In a TQ for the first time, third generation driver Jamie Riberdy, son of Can-Am Midget Champion Jeff Riberdy racing TQ #82 for Wayne Gray, finished a very respectable 14th. His grandfather, Roger Riberdy, also was a noted racer with the Can-Am Midgets. He will be a name to watch in the future.
