LUCAS OIL CAN-AM MIDGETS HOLD 49TH AWARDS BANQUET


The Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets celebrated their 49th season at their Annual Awards Banquet Saturday night at the Best Western Cairn Croft in Niagara Falls, Ont. Mack DeMan received the Champions Trophy for the second year in a row, driving for car owner Andy Mackereth and celebrated with his family and crew. He also received Champion's jackets from Lucas Oil and Bicknell Racing/Hoosier Tire. In accepting this award DeMan thanked Mackereth for not only all the work he puts into the car during the week but his knowledge in the setup week after week to dial the car in. He also thanked his Dad, Peter, and Craig Mackereth for all their help and support. DeMan said "I especially want to give a big thanks to Lucas Oil as not only my sponsor but the sponsor of the Can-Am Midget series for the past 10 years. Also Crown Steering and Brake, Paragon Collision, DeMan Construction, and All Type Welding for their continuous help over the years." Andy Mackereth and Peter DeMan received the 'Harry Macy Memorial Mechanics of the Year' Award.


Allan Smith received the George McIntyre Memorial 'Rookie of the Year' award and the very prestigious 'Albert Banyard 'Sportsman of the Year' award went to Billy Pippard voted on by all the owners and drivers. The 'Rick Sykes Memorial 'Most Improved Driver' went to Adam Racine. The 2014 'Official of the Year' award went to Terry Watts, and The 'Best Appearing Car and Crew' award went to Team #74, Rob Neely, Ken Lorenz and Billy Pippard. The 'President's Award' was given to Lindsay VanWyngaarden by President Ken Lorenz for all her efforts this year to help with the new Club website.


The top twelve drivers with the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets for 2014 received beautiful plaques with photos of their cars designed by Ralph Webbe and Kim Banyard. The following drivers took home those awards....1. Mack DeMan, 2220 points, 2. Rob Neely, 2094, 3. Darren McLennan, 1884, 4. Adam Racine, 1835, 5. Adrian Stahle, 1755, 6. Todd Cresswell, 1745, 7. Lucas Smith, 1667, 8. Ryan Fraser, 1585, 9. David Balych, 1500, 10. Tyler Turnbull, 1390, 11. Barry Dunn, 1387, 12. Chris Bauman, 1386.
