Ten Laps, Two Drivers, One Championship Title

By Greg Calnan - After 16 weeks of competition at Brighton Speedway the
championship chase in the Vanderlaan Building Supplies Late Model division
is a deadlock. Defending champion Corey Earl along with Charlie Sandercock
were set to settle the title fight on the track during Applefest Weekend at
the 1/3 mile clay oval. the weatherman had other ideas. Rain forced the
cancellation of the final night of points racing and with the Great Crate
race scheduled for Saturday, September 28th it didn't seem fair to decide
the outcome with a field full of invaders in town.

Determined to declare a winner on the track both Earl and Sandercock agreed
to make racing history and settle the championship in a one on one match
race. The 10 lap affair will take place following qualifying heats for the
Great Crate Race on Saturday night. The winner collects 1 point and the
division honours to go with it.

"It's a great way to decide a tie, this was created on the track, it should
be ended on the track." said defending champ Earl. "Deciding based on wins
or stats takes something away from it all."

Each driver has had a season that could be considered championship calibre.
Earl who at one point held over a 100 point lead in the standings boasts 4
wins to Sandercock's  3 victories. However consistency has kept the chase
tight. Sandercock has 14 top 5's in 16 starts and no finishes outside the
top 10 while Earl has 13 top 5's, but two finishes 12th or worse.

The real winners on Saturday night will be the fans as those in attendance
will see something that may only happen once in a lifetime. And the
combatants couldn't be more suited for the spotlight as both drivers have
star-like personalities and a comical side to add to the equation. With a
years' worth of sweat and hard work on the line though this friendly rivalry
will be tested by the time the 10 laps are completed.

When all is said and done it will be refreshing to see a championship
decided by something other than a formality and the best thing is that it
wasn't manufactured. This heavyweight title bout will not only create a buzz
leading up to the event, but will also give us all a story to tell for many
years to follow.

So get ready as the champ takes on the challenger. 10 laps, 2 drivers and 1
championship on the line. May the best man win!

Race time at for this event is 6:00pm at Brighton Speedway in Brighton,
Ontario. For more details visit www.brightonspeedway.com.

So one driver can take out the other driver and he wins the championship?
