Billings Back in Victory Lane After SUNY Canton Series Win at Can Am
Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design
August 24, 2010

For Matt Billings and his race team, the 2010 season has been full of highs and lows.  The season began with a win at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park in just his third start in a 358 Modified.  Billings followed that up with a win the same weekend at Cornwall Motor Speedway.  Billings then went on to post a SUNY Canton Series win at Can Am in June, before the season started to take a turn for the worse.  For the following two months, bad luck seemed to plague the Billings team, but they persevered through the tough times, and regained the winning formula this past Friday night at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park in yet another SUNY Canton Series race.

At Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park on Friday night, Billings began the night by turning one of the fastest times in the pre race practice session.  In his qualifying heat, Billings started from the rear of the field, and was clearly the fastest car on the track.  Billings finished second, running out of laps, but was very satisfied with his Billings Automotive, Stealth Racewear, Race 101, Turn One High Performance Steering Systems, Pastime Motors, Babe Design, Finish Line Web Design, Carquest and Enders Racing Engines powered Bicknell car heading into the SUNY Canton 25 lap feature.  By luck of the draw, Billings started the feature from second place, and took the lead early.  Despite a few cautions that regrouped the field, Billings was never seriously challenged during the 25 lap race, and he went on to post his second SUNY Canton win of the year, and fourth win overall.

“The car was just awesome tonight.  The track was in great shame.  I just want to thank Dad, Grandpa and the crew for all of their help, as well as all of our sponsors.  It is great to finally get back into victory lane”, said Billings after the race.

Rain was the story for the rest of the weekend as it began to fall early on Saturday morning and seemed to not want to let up at all until well into Monday.  Brockville Speedway was forced to cancel there racing program on Saturday, and for the third consecutive weekend, Cornwall Speedway had to cancel on Sunday.

Matt Billings and the Billings team would like to welcome Enders Racing Engines as a supporter of Matt Billings and the race team.  Enders Engines are well known throughout the racing community for their performance as well as their reliability, and the Billings team looks forward to working with Kevin Enders and his staff.

This coming weekend will be the usual trio of tracks beginning with Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park on Friday night, Brockville Speedway on Saturday, and Cornwall Speedway on Sunday.  Just two more points events remain at each track, as Labor Day Weekend wraps up the chase for the track championships.  Despite missing two starts at Can Am with commitments with the Race 101 program, Billings currently sits fourth in points.  At Brockville, Billings ninth in points, but sits just two points away from seventh, and has a realistic shot to advance as high as fifth in the final two races.
