Ladouceur Wins Cornwall Speedway and Mohawk Race Parts Championships
Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design
September 8, 2010

Labor Day weekend started just a little early for Joey Ladouceur and his team, from Alexandria, Ontario.  After a rained out Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock tour race in late August, they rescheduled it for Wednesday night, September 1st.   Sunday’s race at Cornwall was just as important, as just starting the race would clinch the 2010 Cornwall Speedway Pro Stock track championship, but there was a lot more work to be done to claim rights to the 2010 Mohawk Race Parts Series, with just one point separating Ladouceur from the points leader heading into the final night of the year at Cornwall.

The night started off well at Mohawk Raceway for Ladouceur.  He set fast time in qualifying in his Coffrage 20-20, Mr. Radiator Auto Service, Fence Depot, Glengarry Truck Centre. Minimax Transportation, Stinger X Chassis.  In the heat race, Ladouceur took the checkered flag, which easily placed him into the redraw for a top 12 starting spot for the 50 lap main event.  Ladouceur drew the 9th position for the feature race.  Ladouceur was an early race favorite, but a lap four pile up sent him to the pits with a flat tire.  Ladouceur rejoined the race on the lead lap after a quick tire change by the crew, and charged back up to the top 10.  On lap 27 Ladouceur’s car drifted high off turn one and stopped, bringing out the yellow flag.  This ultimately ended Ladouceur’s night, and was scored with a 19th place finish.

On Sunday night at Cornwall, Ladouceur just be there to clinch the 2010 Cornwall Speedway Pro Stock championship.  The Mohawk Race Parts Series battle for the championship was a completely different scenario, as just one point separated Ladouceur from the points lead.  The 50 lap feature started well, with Ladouceur advancing to as high as third at one point, but the car just wasn’t quite right, and slipped back to sixth, behind the current Mohawk Race Parts leader.  In the closing laps of the race, Ladouceur took advantage of a very costly mistake, and ducked under him to take over the fourth spot, and the championship in the closing laps.

For the Ladouceur family, the Cornwall Speedway Pro Stock Championship is extra special.  Joey’s father, Laurent Ladouceur also claimed the championship in the 358 Modified division at Cornwall.  This is the second time the duo has accomplished this feat, as it happened back in 2004, the same year Joey went on to become the Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Championship.

This coming weekend, Ladouceur will be on the road, traveling to the Lebanon Valley Speedway on Saturday for the next round in the Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Series.  The following weekend had a Mr. DIRTcar race scheduled at Canandaigua Speedway, near Rochester, New York, but a decision earlier this week by DIRTcar canceled that off the schedule and was replaced by a second event at Mohawk Raceway.  The month of September will end with a September 25th event at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge, New York.  October has the final two races of the Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock tour with a New York State Fairgrounds event on October 10th, and then Brockville Ontario Speedway for the Fall Nationals on October 17th.
