What would you like to see next year?
« on: October 17, 2006, 10:54:09 AM »
So most of us have had our say on the "what was good and what wasn't" thread. (at least, most of us that are still posting in the down-season) And we've got a thread for predictions about drivers and such.

This thread is a "What would you like to see at Delaware in 07" thread. Consider it a suggestion box for the speedway.

So, what do you think? (I'll be posting later)

I liked the program they had this year. It worked out great when we were on an off week. But..

I often wondered what it would be like to see one the track swith a 4 cyl class to come out and run on off there nights on the 1/2 mile. Similar to what the trucks did in Barrie. Equipment rules might be a problem, not sure. I saw them once out west in Calgary and it was neat.

How about that new series, I think it's called the Nascar Canadian Tire Series.

Aside for me few subtle tweaks, I think the season as-was was pretty solid. But here's what I'm thinking:

What about a Delaware/Flamboro LM challenge series? Not a big one...maybe 2 races here and 2 there, maybe even 3/3. Hundred lappers, twin 50s, that kind of thing.

Make points count to towards the regular track champoinships in addition the the "Challenge Cup"

Reasons this series would be a good idea:

1. The rules are already pretty much the same. Minor to no tweaks necessary.

2. The 2 tracks are reasonably close...no great travel hardships on crews.

3. A 32 car LM field is possible...who wouldn't want to see that?

4. Return of real inter-track rivalries...good guys and bad guys = lots of tickets sold.

5. (related to point 2) Tracks are faily close. And with only 2-3 "away" races, fans from both tracks could reasonably attend all the races, helping both tracks. Maybe even have bus trips for fans.

6. If this year is the same as last, we wouldn't have to worry about ALSTAR scheduling against us.

7. Its not a major touring series, therefore losing Fri Sat weekly drivers is not as likely as if a new 12 race series was introduced. I think major touring series are overrrated anyway. I want to see one that highlights the weekly guys instead of tryng to woo them away. Our home-boys are perfectly capable of putting on a hot show...why hire out for the same thing?

Historical precedent for this working: Although I don't know for certain how many tracks were involved in the end, the original Export A Super Stock series began as a six race series between just Delaware and Cayuga. The Export A series is considered by many long time fans to be the heyday of Late Model racing in Ontario. The formula worked. I beleve it would work again.

Oh yeah...and bring back the Mexicana Shack.

I was bored of the enduros this year. Partly cuz of the low car count, and partly the predictability of the outcome.

Car count, thats a rules thing.

Predictability? thats the cars too sophisticated for what was a entry level class.  My suggestion - Of the 6 Enduros a year, mandate that two of them will run in a clockwise direction of the race track!  Further, the driver won't know until after practice and the direction of travel will be announced at the drivers meeting. Perhaps a draw from a hat.

No more enduro cars with late model setups, and what an event that would be.

Enduros at Delaware are awesome...I didn't get ther eto see any this year so can't comment on the car counts but in previous years I know they have always been pretty high up.

I agree have to bring back the Mexicana Shack.  :D

The new Nascar Canadian Tire Series would be great to see at Delaware

Side story:  Someone once told me how they run the Enduros out east.  Basically the first 125 laps are the regular counter-clockwise direction.  Then at the first red flag after 125, all the cars turn around where they are and run the reverse direction (clockwise) thus preventing agressive setups.

Although an novel idea - - safety is number one.  The current track configuration is not designed for clockwise travel.  Imagine taking a lap around the track going reverse direction and think of the things that would sneak up on you.  The main entrance to the pits in turn two comes to mind!

Personally I've never found Enduros to be boring.  Just follow the #11 around as he dodges his way through traffic!!!  (or the 64, 141, 15, 16, 033 and about 30 others...  the list goes on!)  Should stick an in-car camera on some of these guys!

I think the low car count is because of the number of races. Kind of a catch 22 (for spectators)but as an entry level it's tough to rebuild a car 2 or 3 times a year.

Mind you, I've really started to look forward to an enduro race.

I guess the only way to attempt to level the playing field is to mandate stock alignment and weight distribution

It's tougher on guys to run every 4 weeks as opposed to every 6...

I want to actually go and see an enduro race...sounds like there is a good chunk of entetaining going on....they should always start the fast cars at the back so u can see them come through the field...those are always the best races

It's a random draw for starting positions for the most part, with the exceptions of the top-5 from the last race (who start at the rear) and the newest driver, best-looking new paintscheme and most torn up car all start at the front.

We'll probably see more people come out once someone's able to come up with something that'll properly challenge the Camaros that usually dominate..

It's a riot, I was able to get a lot of people to come out this past year and they start calling and asking when's the next race. It's a great afternoon of racing, noise and odors. It's great fun trying to tell whose rad is emptying or which car is going to loose it's rear end.

In hind site, maybe the format of the enduro's should be left alone. It could make it worse.

Well, you have to realize that once the guys in the front row get around to the backstretch, the back markers haven't even started moving yet...it creates an effect where there are really are no leaders or back markers until the scores start coming in at lap 50. (I think they still do it that way)

It's just a mass of race cars.

So...anyone have anything to say about Friday night racing?
