Stephane Lafrance wins inaugural Bandit Motorsports Canadian Nationals!
Cornwall, Ont – Sunday, May 17, 2015 – Martin Bélanger – The Modifieds had the spotlight with the initial race of the Bandit Motorsports Canadian Nationals was run on a beautiful evening along with a complete race program at Cornwall Motor Speedway. The Modified ran a 100-lap event as the other categories had regular events on Bandit Motorsports Night.
Steve Bernier was the early leader in the 100-lap Bandit Motorsports Canadian Nationals as he led over Gabriel Richer and Mario Clair. Clair was able to pass Richer on lap 3 using the inside lane. Bernier still in the lead as they worked through the lap cars as Danny Johnson reached the top 5. The race had picked up a good rhythm as the first caution came for Paul St-Sauveur on lap 27. On the green, Mario Clair was able to take the lead over Bernier as Lafrance holds up on Johnson. Both leaders swapped the lead over as they got back into heavy traffic, Mario Clair slipped off the track in turn 3 on lap 48 and faded to 7th as Steve Bernier reclaimed the lead with Lafrance, Johnson, Dunn and Carey Terrance your top 5 as they reached the halfway point on the caution. The green lights came back on lap 56 as Stephane Lafrance took the lead with a great battle for third with Terrance using the outside lane but has the same bad luck as Clair moving out of the track in turn 1 going down to 8th. After David Papineau brought back the yellow lights, Lafrance kept the lead on lap 67 as Billy Dunn took the second of Bernier. Terrance was back in mix by lap 80 as he took third from Bernier. Danny Johnson showed his experience as he passed Terrance for third while Lafrance led the way with only 10 laps to go. Bill Mullin brings a caution with only 8 laps to go. Lafrance kept the lead but Dunn ran strong on the top side. Lafrance resisted to late charges from Dunn and captures the win over him and Danny Johnson finishes in third.
Adam Rozon took the lead in the 20-lap Wheeler-Forget Sportsman feature as he had company in second with Mathieu Desjardins. As the green light came back out on lap 2, Desjardins wasted no time and took the lead before an accident occurred on the following lap. Desjardins pulled away from Rozon and Godard as they reached the halfway point. While Desjardins was alone in front, Tristan Draper moved up to third and passed Rozon for second as he set eyes on Desjardins. After having bad luck two weeks ago, Desjardins won the event over Tristan Draper et Adam Rozon.
In the 20-lap Alexandria Home Hardware Pro-Stock, Dave Seguin took the lead as Rosco Garreau was strong running in second as George Renaud was in third. Seguin was the guy to beat tonight as he won the feature over Renaud and Rosco Garreau.
Adam Delormier led the first portion of the Polar Sound Semi-Pro division until he had issues right after the halfway point, Pascal Racette lead the final laps and wins his first feature of the season over Derek Cryderman and Junior Delormier.
In the Polar Sound DJ Services 12-lap Mini-Stock feature, Dudes Thompson took the lead over Marc Dagenais and JF Page. Thompson had a good lead over Dagenais as they hit the halfway point. Thompson led the whole race to capture his first ever feature over Dagenais and Page completed the top 3.
We will present a full show next Sunday evening as the fans will be able to craft their own banners as a contest will be done at intermission time.
