This topic keeps coming up in different forums specifically Barrie and Delaware as to who has to purchase and when you have to purchase a NASCAR licence. As I understand it the fee this year is $90 and this includes insurance. As a point of interest I have a few questions.
1 - What kind of insurance is this? Is it primary or secondary insurance. As an example I belong to two different hunting / shooting organisations, the OFAH and the CSSA. Both membership fees include 2 mil in liability insurance. The OFAH is secondary insurance (if you or someone else makes a claim then any other insurance you may have is hit first for a payout) and the CSSA is primary insurance (claims are first applied to this policy before looking to your home insurance etc).
2 - Does NASCAR insurance have an accidental death part?
3 - Does NASCAR insurance cover you for a specific activity (racing) at any facility in Ontario or just sanctioned tracks. The Insurance I mentioned above covers me for an activity and is not location specific.
4 - What type of insurance do racers and team member have or do you have any? Most home owners policies and life policies have specific exemptions in the small print against racing or other activities that are considered risky. This could also extend to team members who get hurt while participating in these activities even though you aren't driving. (King of the Hill is a huge question mark also).
5 - Who here races without insurance and what would happen to your families if God forbid something happened to you because of an accident? After watching the video Shadow posted of the 72 LM hitting the inside wall and following the different threads on here about visiting drivers having to purchase a NASCAR licence I have to wonder what is $90.
6 - Does the registration fee for Non-Nascar sanctioned tracks have an insurance component for personal liability and life?
It seems to me that in this day and age that if you don't have insurance to race then you are taking a huge gamble.
