I'm not sure that the OSS will be the biggest series in Canada, but it certainly has to be the fastest growing and most well received series. The Lethbridges got the ball rolling last fall when they made some enquiries. One month ago a casual inaugural meeting was held and since then the interest and support from competitors, sponsors and tracks has been tremendous. The history and integrity of the previous Sportsman series likely was a factor. .

K-man,,,,I'm not sure I'd split hairs over what is written on these posts. Mid-america may have used the term, conflict of interest, to simplify things and make a long story short. There are very few real journalists out there, but lots of reporters. We can't be sure which he ran into.

FYI:  Steve Robblee and son Matt Robblee will be competing in the Ontario Sportsman Series.
That's not journalism, just simply reporting.  See you Saturday in Milton.

Points taken Justwonderiong and Kman, but I agreed to protect the reporters name because he is tied to the TV coverage and does not want the exposure. I did find it intreasting that this site is used for information related to racing news, who would have thought.
The saying- "There is no such thing as bad press" does have a meaning in this case, I just wish it was of a better nature.

I was asked a question by a reporter who wishes to remain unknown (due to a conflict of intreast)but has been reading the information on this site regarding the OSS and the CTS.
His question to me- The OSS looks as if it is going to be the biggest Series in CANADA- what do you think, and why has this series grown so fast ??.
He also stated his opinon with regards to the CTS series and said as far as he is concerned and his fellow reporters are concerned, the CTS is still a rumor based on what he has seen and read in the media. He also said the feedback from this site speaks for itself as most people on this site are Race fans !!
His last question to me- Has NASCAR made a commitment to the teams that made it a no brainer for the CASCAR teams from last year to sign on for 2007 ??

From the top....
I answered YES more then likely, and the growth was based on racers wants and needs, and said NO the CTS is not a rumor, just a little on the slow side with annoucments.
As for the no brainer comment I simply said, sometimes our brains work like timming in a motor- we can advance as easy as we can retard, its all in which way you turn you cap !!

I really do believe the OSS is going to take off and be filled to capacity by 2008, but I must say that we all need the CTS deal to take off and become sucsessfull so please keep your negitive remarks to yourselves reagrading the CTS.
You never know who is reading these forums.

Since there are less then a handful of legitimate oval race reporters in this country and knowing your location . its not hard to figure out who you were talking to midamerica.  It would seem you have confused the term "conflict of interest " with telling the truth and reporting the truth.

As we all wait for NASCAR Canada's April Fools Day announcement of their schedule I have to ask why anyone needs NASCAR Canada to succeed ?  Much like NASCARs last foray into Canada  they seem to be on the road to failure .

I take offence that you would want to suppress people from expressing their opinion on this board because you don't like it or it maybe detrimental to your selling a bunch of old rims.

Unlike midamerica I hope the posters here continue to post their opinions be it negative or positive .

I did an 'on the record' interview with NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Director Richard Coughlin yesterday at their new offices. He said NASCAR views the new OSS and its western counterpart series as positive developments. To paraphrase him, these series will help to perpetuate the NCATS type of cars in these regions, thereby increasing the number of cars and drivers who can participate in NCATS events (in Ontario and out west).

In short, NASCAR has the benefit of having these series remain in place as 'rungs' on the racing ladder that leads to the NCATS, without the responsibilities of acting as their adminstrators. Makes sense to me. In reality, NASCAR has no rivals. But it is in their interest to encourage the existence of series that prepare racers and teams for 150 to 300 lap races.

The efforts of the OSS and WEST guys are making this look like a 'win-win' for the racers and NASCAR.

p.s. - wasn't me. ;)

Interesting to see both Robblees intending to run the full OSS schedule this season...It's shaping up to be a decent field, provided they can get 20 cars to start each race...They appear to be halfway there already...

Well, I kinda take offence the the idea that potential sponsors and others whose involvement could be beneficial to the sport could stumble across here and be put off by some of the negative junk that sometimes gets written here. But that's just me.

If anyone wants to take it as their God-given right to stand proud while whizzing in the public pool...please, be my guest.

I believe most educated people would find putting concern for commercial viability over that of the free exchange of ideas and opinions to be abhorrent.

Your comparison of urinating in the public pool with dissent is at best addle minded

Where was commercial viability mentioned??? I believe the concern was for racing in general, not a particular track or entity.

His comparison seems to me to be an idiom that expresses his opinion very well. (so you think criticism is dissent?)

When reading the post from Shadowracer, he obviously asserts that it is his opinion.

I don't get it Pinecrest, do you or do you not, believe in a free exchange of ideas and or opinions???

Pinecrest, I always like reading your post in the past because they seemed academic and insightful, but lately you seem to be critical of some posters.. Is something going on???

This board is great for expressing opinions and discussing racing !  But if you think an executive looking to spend well over half a million dollars on a race team is at all concerned about what 2 or 3 people on a chat room have to say you are living in a world of your own !   there are way more abusive and derogatory boards involving Nascar and it doesnt affect them at all .  Get out once in a while get of the computer and realize HEY the sun is shining outside.

I think I did more than nudge it.  ::) I forgot I was talking to the guy who, in various realtime conversations I've had the last few weeks, is referred to as "whatsisname...that guy who calls Tony a nitwit all the time"

Sorry I helped make the pool a little yellower.  ;)

A tentative roster has been posted for OSS....Hopefully they can get another 6-8 cars more for this season, to give them around 20-21 full-time regulars. There's definitely enough old sportsman cars out there to get more drivers. I'll be curious to see how well Ashley Taws does in her transition to stock cars and how well guys like Abe Harner and Matt Robblee stack up...

I didn't know that Ashley was even racing still. I heard she quit a couple of years ago. Can you tell me where you found this, i'd like to check on it further.

Thanks, Greasemonkey.
