It is really annoying when so called experts talk about low attendance when they were not there. The first purse may have been low but the points payout is a huge change and they might even get paid at the end of the year. Too many cautions but when they did race,it was very good. as for cost of ticket, welcome to the 21st century. I will be there backing them up.

Most people that were there say there was about 5 to 6 K in attendance which is a 1/3 of what the joint holds . You say the purse may have been low ? No it was record low it was worst then was paid in the 70s for 100 lappers and puts the series as much lower paying then several series that will run in Canada this year.
Sorry but you have no idea of gate prices if you think 45 bucks is the going rate for a third rate track in a series with a poor car count in the 21st century . 37.50 got you into the Craftsmen Truck series yesterday in a race that had TEN TIMES the purse and TEN TIMES the facility.   45 bucks will get you into Pocono for the Cup race next month so I am sorry but your argument wont fly.

Well seeing as I was there yesterday I guess I can provide feedback on the crowd situation.  Was it sparse to start during the qualifying time absolutely but then again few people are crazy like myself to be there for practice/qualifying and feature.  However before the feature started there was a large influx in the crowd and would say that it was the best crowd I'd seen besides the shootout with the NASCAR drivers.  I would say it was more then half full from where I could see sitting at the entrance to turn 1.  As for the autograph session it is the same as when they have done the sessions in the past for the CASCAR events at Cayuga.  It didn't let you do much other then quickly grab their autograph card and then leave which is why I didn't get any.  I like the option of getting down on the track and taking their photo with the car.  As for the number of cautions there were a lot but then again that's due to the number of accidents in the race and when the caution did fly they didn't spend excessive laps like in the past getting the cars lined up and the pits open.  I thought it was better organized then previous CASCAR events in regards to the cautions.  I'll check my photos of what I took to see if I got any early pics at the start of the race to show the crowd for those that didn't make it.  All in all besides the price good start to the race season.

to give a perspective from the pit side of things . there is no comparison to the "old " series in the way this event was run .. the officials  where nice and wanted to work with you to figure out problems . the event schedule was the best I have seen in 15 years in racing and yes there was way to many cautions but everyone was trying way to hard to win the "first one " .  The tire rule and compound area is the best thing to ever happen to this series . Its going to keep the deep pocket teams "honest " ...   as far as the crowd like someone else said "its the best crowd thats been there since the shootout "  all in all Best race I have been to in a long time ..  looking forward to the rest of the season

Can't Sleep bad knee, just for the record there is no Cont program in the payout you are seeing I got a min of $5140.00 for second without the rest of the Cont program and they announced the points fund to date is at $260,000.00 that would mean the champ would get a Min of $52000,00. this is a big step in the right direction, I have to say that this was not the best race we have ever run, we where like a bunch of weapons out there myself included please do not judge the competitors on the first rodeo it has been a long winter for all of use.

Great to see Mark come on a give his point of view. No it wasn't the best race I have seen It had its moments where you saw some great side by side racing and battles for the lead then a caution came out.

There seemed to be no give and take in the race at all and this was going on from the beginning and at the end of the race. I could understand people getting up on the wheel near the end of the race to try and win but it was going on the entire race.

I saw the flag stand throw the flag 3 times to a car to tell him to move over to let the lead lap cars get by but the driver seemed not to listen and the officials need to start handing out some penalties or they will have this happen all the time like it did in CASCAR. The first race would have been the best place to start and put the message out to the drivers and teams we are not going to put up with this stuff.

Maybe we could get Mark to come on our Live Online Race show and answer some questions? I will see if I can get someone from the series to come on the show and answer some of your questions.

I have to agree, I was listenning in to Race Control during the race, man that guy was all business, so anyone who wants to complain about yellow flags, debruis, length on cautions, getting the field lined up back for greens, can not blame him. Just ask Kent Nuhn's team. He was even on the tow truck operator's cases, i.e., "wrecker get your foot into it". Actually he was a pleasure to listen to, I had to chuckle there a few times, but I think RC did an exceptional job and deserves to be mentioned.

One of my highlights of the day was being able to talk briefly to Petey. It was really great to see him there helping out J.R. I was really hoping that those 2 guys could bring that car to the front, they really made a valiant effort!

At any rate, it really turned out to be a good day, a few showers were tossed in and I was thinking, oh no, not again, but they got the race in with out a hitch.

I did end up getting the season ticket pass, and to answer a question I had, you have to pay another $10.00 for a Pit Pass, so for $20.00 I get into the pits, that's not bad and the races I can't attend, I guess some of my other family members or friends can enjoy them on me. I think in the end, even with a few I miss, I'll still come at least even, when all is said and done.

One final note, I have to agree with what some others said about the autograph session. I think the kids should be able to go down to track side when the cars are lined up, to get a glimpse of their favourite driver and perhaps get a chance to talk to them! That's what made this series somewhat unique and personable!

I agree with autoassembler - the race was well run. I also heard a number of
people complaining about the autograph session not being held on the track.

As for the crowds, it sure looked a lot better than we've had at Cayuga in
recent years (I remember counting the crowd - I think it was the NASCAR
modifieds - at either 156 or 256 people a couple of years ago...).  If the
weather had been better...

Here's a shot during time trials:

And here are 3 just before the feature:

Here's the green flag:

I agree it is cool to go on the track for autograph session but I know some of my friends have tried to sneak into the pits and got caught and were thrown out.  Remember when you go to the pits you have to sign a liability slip.  Its all insurance these days.

The show was well run and under controll from move in- to move out and yes all of the NASCAR guys deserve a big round of applause. As everyone involved was thinking this was going to be a long day of tech it was not, and a matter of fact, everyone in tech was eager to help you out- not throw you out!!
The race was a beat and bash event as Mark said, but for the fans, and I have talked to a bunch of them, they thought it was the best race they have seen in years.
(Okay as fans wrecks are neat- as Car Owners we cry)
I will say I thought the payouts were way to low for what we expected as we were all told of a  30 to 60% increase. I guess when they figure out our dollar they will understand that toonies dont buy tires.

NASCAR - Dont hold that statement against me when we go through tech at Mosport. I did say you did a good job after all.....
