2nd in Hoosier OSCAAR Modified Points: Cory Horner

After having success on a limited basis last year, Cory Horner ran the full Hoosier OSCAAR Modified schedule for the first time in 2015. It certainly paid off as the Peterborough, Ontario driver had a great season en route to finishing second in points.

In his limited amount of starts last year, he was strong at both Sunset Speedway and Peterborough Speedway with impressive finishes inside of the top-10. With that in mind, it was no surprise that he started off the year on a high-note at one of those tracks. Horner would kick off his rookie campaign in OSCAAR with a third place finish in the season-opener at Sunset Speedway in May. He would then back it up with a runner-up finish a month later.

Unfortunately, the next couple of weeks wouldn’t result in the same level of success for Horner. He would find himself involved in a wreck at Full Throttle Motor Speedway resulting in a 14th place finish, followed by a 12th place finish at Delaware Speedway.

The bad luck wouldn’t last, though, as he was able to turn things around during the second half of July with a solid run at Sauble Speedway en route to finishing seventh. A return back to his home track brought forth another solid run, finishing fifth.

While Sunset marks one of Horner’s strongest tracks, all of his appearances didn’t result in performances that he would’ve hoped for. The August event was one of those as he got caught up in a big wreck partway through the event while running within the top-five. Even with the heavy damage, the Horner Racing team was able to make quick repairs so Horner could be at Flamboro Speedway a week later, finishing sixth.

The final two months of schedule would see Horner post no finishes outside of the top-seven, including three runner-up performances. He would finish second at Full Throttle Motor Speedway to kick off September, followed by a seventh at Delaware Speedway.

Returning back to Sunset Speedway, the driver of the 79H The Truck Shop SAFETY Inspection, Custom Forming, Bonsma Brothers Concrete Plumbing Modified would lead a bunch of laps through the middle portion of the race, battling against John Harper for the race lead. He’d finish the race strong, finishing second to Gary McLean. He would then complete the season with another solid performance, finishing second at the Autumn Colours Classic to John Baker Jr.

The solid performances through the season led to a solid finish in points, and also winning the 2015 Rookie of the Year Award. Certainly a stellar season for one of the division’s future stars, and more than likely a future feature winner.
