Murray and Shepherd Notch Feature Race Glory
« on: May 19, 2013, 02:48:50 AM »
Howdy once again folks, just a few quick results and maybe a quick blurb on each feature race, with complete report to follow in the next couple days.. In the Wahta Springs Late Model division it was Shawn Murray of Alliston who came to victory lane in his #02 Chevy Impala SS. Murray, would relieve early race leader #74 Roy Manary of the point somewhere around the midway mark, and fought off late challenges from both #57 Ron Quesnelle and #10 Gord Shepherd en route to victory..1st win of 2013 for the 02 in his sleek new ride, after amassing a remarkable 4 feature wins in his rookie year last season..Shepherd, after starting 14th in the 15 car field, would pull along the high side of Quesnelle on the last lap in turn 2, just nipping the 57 at the line for 2nd.

LLM Feature #1 -- 1st} 02 Shawn Murray, 2nd} 10 Gord Shepherd, 3rd} 57 Ron "The Dominator" Quesnelle, 4th} #24 Leonard Johnston, 5th} #74 Roy Manary.. First career top 5 result for the 74 team so huge congrats to that bunch!!

In feature #2 it was the 43 of Darin Malcolm who burst out to the early lead, after getting the jump on #5 Mike "The Hulkamaniac" Langley from the drop of the green. Malcolm, would continue to hold the lead to just shy of the 10 lap mark when he was passed to the inside of turns 1&2 by 2010 track champ #69 Al "Red Rocket" Inglis of Orillia. Inglis, was looking strong on the front end, with a fast approaching Shepherd in his rear view mirror, after Shepherd also disposed of the 43 of Malcolm. Shepherd would make the winning move on lap 22, powering around Inglis on the outside of turn 2, and from there he paraded to the line and the checkered maybe 4 or 5 car lengths ahead of Inglis.

LLM Feature #2 -- 1st} Shepherd, 2nd} #69 Al Inglis, 3rd} #43 Darin Malcolm, 4th} Quesnelle, 5th} #14 "Hurricane" Thayne Hallyburton.. Caution free in this 30 lap affair.. Hope I have all these results correct as my notes werent the greatest on this night, but if I'm incorrect you folks get what you pay for!! ;)

In the Thunder Cars it was #00 Darryl St. Onge who captured his 2nd feature win in just 3 weeks. St. Onge, was chased to the line every step of the way by sophmore sensation #39 Travis "The Enforcer" Hallyburton, who finished a very game second. #44 Dave "The Deuce" Doucette finished 3rd after coming from the back twice after being caught up in separate early race incidents..

Thunder Car Feature -- 1st} St. Onge, 2nd} Hallyburton, 3rd} Doucette, 4th #12 Jim "Polish Prince" Belesky, 5th #10 Rick Walt. Nasty tangle up involving the 40 of Donny Brandon and #55 of Shawn Goggins on the final lap approaching the flagstand. Looked as if Brandon overcooked turn 4 and got crossways out of that corner, leaving Goggins nowhere to go but into the #40 Monte Carlo, with Goggins sustaining the most damage from it all, and neither driver actually crossing the finish line at the end.

Heat wins went to Goggins with a pair, Hallyburton, and Belesky.

In St. Onge Recreation Pure Stock action, it was #77 Mike Gettliffe of Orillia who piloted his Dodge Neon to victory lane. Gettliffe, fought off late race challenges from the duo of #10 Doug Butler and #9 Charlie Smith, with Butler having a look to the high side racing into turn 1 with a couple laps remaining but the #10 Nissan 240 was unable to make a pass stick. Butler and Smith would exchange second place positioning on sucessive laps in the late going, as Butler took to the high side with Smith looking stout on the bottom.. Butler would take the runner up spot by inches over Smith at the line.

PS Feature -- 1st #77} Mike Gettliffe, 2nd} #10 Doug Butler, 3rd} #9 Charlie Smith, 4th #57} Ryan Toon, 5th} #09 Dean Curry.

Heat wins went to Butler and Curry with a pair each.. Nasty wreck in the 2nd heat of the evening in this class, when #06 Ryan Hardy broke an axle and damaged the oil filter, thus  littering the track with oil, and causing Hardy to grab a handful of wheel as he attempted to save a crossways slide. The result would see Hardy make contact with promising upstart #400 Justin Holmes, sending the latter hard into the turn 4 wall, as Butler and #11 Adam Misener also caught a piece of the action. This turn of events would end the night for Holmes, who has already had his fair share of bad luck for 2013, with Butler able to continue and Misener unable to do the same, as last years divisional runner up would be unable to make the start in the second set of heats with the North Bay resident only able to complete one lap of the feature to ensure he received last place points..

That's all I got for now folks.. Enjoy the remainder of the long weekend and be safe!! Till next time... you know the insignia....... FROM THE CHEAP SEATS!!! ;)
