Prelude to a Dream
« on: July 08, 2007, 12:35:30 PM »
The Nextel Prelude to a Dream from Eldora is on Speed. I think they're going to re-air it a few more times. I'm watching them time trial. Just curious, do these cars use rear steer or is it just an optical illusion?

I am watching it too , what a great show . The cars steer conventionally like any other stock car an just run a rack .

Do they mount the rear ends offset or on an angle to help them turn? It looks like the rear wheels are pivoting in the wheel well. Must be just the way the body is rolling over.

No just a regular quick change like you would see in OSCAAR .

The Teams could save a ton of money on the Tire bills if they just elimanted the Left Front. The tire never touches the track... Why bother having one !!

Racenut:  These dirt late models have a 4 bar link with a lift bar. You were not seeing an illusion, the Left wheel actually will pivot forward up to 7 inches, making the left side shorter.

Thanks 38lmcrew. Yeah, I was convinced that I was seeing the left rear pivot. I can see how shortening up the left side will help the car turn. I guess this is why the cars seemed very sideways even on the straightaways as well. It was great racing.

Anyone who missed the Prelude, it's being replayed on Speed right after the Truck race tonight (10:30). It's worth checking out.
