track is looking awesome, any one know when they will be paving it?  can not wait to see the racing action there this season, looking forward to a couple nights off at peterborough and coming over to sunset to give it a try.

Mark said that they wanted to finish getting the second half of the track ready for paving and then paving would begin in probably a week, if I remember correctly.

It has come a long way over the winter and an even longer way since the beginning.

Another view from a few years earlier in 1976.

Not much room for Spencer up in the original tower shown here in 1968:

Don't mean to hijack the thread here but mini-stocks were a new class to the area back then and there were some allowances. The 9 car was actually a relatively stock VW Beetle chassis with a homemade body and a setback driving position. It was a pretty quick car  and one of the top 3-4 in the division.

It was definately run what you brung but what you brung was definetly not stock. In the early days a lot of experimenting went on but you have to remember the technology wasn't anywhere near what it is now and horespower was hard to come by and very expensive relatively, in an engine that would last. The guys back in the day would have thought they were running at Daytona if they could time travel to this new Sunset!

I Visited Sunset Today (April 14). The work is coming along quite nicely, the fencing is being installed and the track is taking shape. With the banking, I believe this track is going to be one of, if not, the Fastest in the Country. Great Job to Mark, Linda, Steve and ALL the construction crews. Race Season can't start soon enough.
